LIVERPOOL VS BOLTON - A tough game

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

the most annoying thing is, for a striker, he's actually much more effective when he plays on the right hand side. when he was cutting in from that position he was devastating mainly because he could look along the line better and not get caught offside.

Bolton are having a poor run away from home this season and there results of late have not been anything to worry about.
At the moment i think they are very much distracted with Sams involvement with the England job possibility and where i was a bit nervous early last week i think that we will win this one.

I stick by my previous prediction of 3-1 all the way:D :D

I personally still think 2nd could happen, Man Utd have two crucial games coming up - Arsenal at Old Trafford and Chesea at Stamford bridge. A defeat in both is a possiblity. Assuming we win our games and they win their game in hand that leaves with 2 points to make up before the end of the season.

Now i'm not saying its clear cut but at least its a possibility.

Spot on, mate.

I will honestly hold up my hand and say that I have been apprehensively studying the table for the past few days, doing the calculations and figuring out what we need to get out of the last few games in order to avoid being caught by the likes of Spurs, Arsenal, Blackburn and Bolton.  And, you know what?...I'm sick of it.

If that's our mentality then all we're trying to do is avoid dropping X number of points before mid-May, which is: a) not good for the nerves and, more importantly, b) not good enough for a club like Liverpool.  After the great strides we've made this season should we now be fretting about how many points we can afford to drop?

Hell no!!  We should be looking to catch the Mancs up for 2nd spot and expecting to win every game during the run-in.  We are playing some scintillating stuff at the moment and that looks to continue, given that we have almost the entire squad available and a week between each game for our genius manager to work out the tactics.  It's time to stop looking over our shoulders at who might be challenging us for 3rd and start looking to pip the Mancs for 2nd and blow by Chelsea to hoist the F.A. Cup!

C'mon lads...go out there and put down a marker over the next month to let everyone else in the league know exactly what they can expect from Liverpool next season!

Up the Pool!  :buttrock

There away form has been awful, the Reebok has become a bit of a fortress and they have achieved most of their points from their home games.
And with Fat Sam having one eye on the England job "pick me, pick me" :glare:  its effecting the team IMO.

They got beat by Brum on tuesday, no points against the mancs on saturday either so if we beat them they will have lost 9 points from thier last 3 games.

Bet that kunt Diuof scores against us though I hate that horrible b@stard

But we will be to strong  for them Gerrards back and Momo dont pick up a yellow card please, he will miss two games if he does his tally will be ten yellows.

I expect a win but TBH just like us to get through unscathed for the upcoming FA cup semi final.

Coutesy of the Beeb...

BIG-MATCH FACTS

LIVERPOOL against Bolton is a north west derby between two clubs pursuing European qualification. But while the Champions League seeking Reds are vying for a fifth successive Premiership victory, the Uefa Cup chasing Trotters are battling to avoid a fourth consecutive top flight loss.

Rafael Benitez' side go into the weekend in third place, five points behind Manchester United immediately above them and 12 ahead of fourth placed Tottenham. They're unbeaten in 14 League outings at Anfield, and have only conceded more than a single goal in one home Premiership match this season (the 1-4 defeat by Chelsea on 2 October). With five matches to play, the Merseysiders already have more points than they've totalled in five of the last 10 seasons when the top League has been contested over 38 games. But the FA Cup remains their only chance of silverware. However they'll have to get past Chelsea in the semi-final on Saturday, 22 April.

The Reds are unbeaten at home to Bolton in the Premiership (five wins, and one draw) and have not lost a home League fixture to the Trotters in 52 years. They've won their last three at Anfield against Wanderers, including last season's equivalent fixture when an 86th minute header from Igor Biscan stole all three points.

SEQUENCES/RECENT FORM

LIVERPOOL

Won the last five in League and Cup with an aggregate score of 20-3.
Won the last four top flight games against Fulham (5-1 h), Newcastle (1-3 a), Everton (3-1 h) and West Brom (0-2 a).
Targeting five Premiership victories on the spin for the first time in 15 duels, since 10 in a row were achieved between 29 October and 31 December.
Won 20 Premiership matches. Only Chelsea (25) and Manchester United (22) have won more.
Lost just six times in the top table. Only Chelsea (three) and Manchester United (four) have been beaten less often.
Shipped 22 goals in the top table. Only Chelsea have leaked fewer (19).
Kept 20 clean sheets in the top flight this term - more than any other club.
Gone 11 top flight encounters since a score draw.
Completed nine in the highest ecehelon since losing by more than a single goal.
Recorded just one goalless draw in 29 Premiership matches.
Conceded only once in the opening quarter-hour of top tier matches this term.
Their 33 League games have yielded 69 goals (47 for, 22 against). At 2.09, it's the lowest goals per game average in the highest League.
Awarded more penalties in Premiership matches this season than any other club, with the exception of Arsenal. Both have had six penalties, but while the Gunners have converted three, the Merseysiders have knocked in four.
Blackburn, Chelsea and Middlesbrough have also scored four penalties in Premiership matches this season - no club has converted more.
Liverpool's home record is inferior only to Chelsea. The Londoners have accumulated 46 points at the Bridge, the Reds 42 points at Anfield.
Conceded only seven League goals at Anfield - the tightest home defence in the top division.
Unbeaten in 14 home League encounters (12 wins, two draws).
The 1-4 reverse by Chelsea on 2 October is Liverpool's only loss in 17 home League games this season and only defeat in 24 Premiership matches at Anfield all told, trailing back to January last year.
Kept clean sheets in 11 of the last 14 home top tier contests.

BOLTON WANDERERS

Lost six of the last nine League and Cup matches, and four of the last five.
Won two of the last five Premiership matches.
The 1-0 defeat at Birmingham last time out was the first time Bolton had failed to score in 11 Premiership outings.
Completed 11 highest League matches since a goalless draw (away to Blackburn on 14 January).
Bolton's previous highest points return after the first 31 matches of a Premier League campaign was 46 last season, when they went on to finish in sixth place. They had 49 points after 32 games 12 months ago.
Scored first in 20 Premiership matches. Only Chelsea (24), Liverpool (22) and Manchester United (21) have netted the opener more often.
Conceded the opening goal in eight top tier encounters.
Not won in eight away in all competitions, losing the last five.
The 0-3 victory at Watford in the third round of the FA Cup on 7 January is Bolton's only win in 12 League and Cup matches on the road.
Without victory in eight away Premiership matches.
The impressive victory over Everton (0-4) at Goodison is Bolton's only maximum in 10 on their Premiership travels. :D

2-1 to the Reds. A late consolation goal for spit the dog on 86 minutes. Garcia (21') and Crouch (54') for us.

Despite Bolton being a tough side, there away record is poor, I believe they haven’t won away since December:

Won 4, Drawn 5, Lost 7, Scored 20, Conceded 26.

We are far the superior team and are relatively injury free. I have heard people saying that we should leave Sissoko out in case he gets suspended, but that’s a bit silly if you ask me, we must win this game against Bolton, and his physical and mental strength will be needed against a tough Bolton side. I am hoping for a big finish to the season from Gerrard after having 2 weeks without a game. Tiredness is no excuse now because our games are spread out nicely, strongest team out is what should happen. We should be too strong for Bolton, my only worry is complacency, it is very easy to ease up subconsciencly when there isn’t much to play for or these is not much hope for better (like we have seen with Chelsea since they got knocked out of the Champions League).
