Robbie fowler - 1 YEAR CONTRACT TO BE SIGNED NEXT WEEK

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby ivor_the_injun » Mon Apr 03, 2006 2:51 am

Five games to go in the league, and Rafa's sure to make an announcement one way or the other on this before the season ends. What do you guys think?

Personally, I've been delighted with him since he came back. His touch is still as good as any striker around, and at times his vision and movement has been from another planet in comparison to our other 3 strikers.

I'm a little disappointed that he hasn't bagged a quickfire half dozen goals, but to be honest I think Rafa's underused him slightly. He's only started six games (out of a possible 13) since he returned, and his other five appearances have generally been late cameos.

Even so, in there has been at least 1 man-of-the-match performance, one brilliantly taken header, 1 classic poacher's effort, 3 disallowed goals (2 perhaps unfairly), some wonderful interplay and ghostlike movement, and generally all the attributes that cost serious money in the current market. Since his arrival, he's been the pick of our strikers for me, and the way he's immediately slotted into the team has made Morientes look even more of a misfit for me.

This is a guy that will play for us for peanuts, and will improve still further as his fitness comes on. I genuinely think the guy has a future at the club, and it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he got a new contract and ended up our top scorer next year. I think Rafa's been pleasantly surprised by the guy, and I just hope that he does the right thing.

IMO he should stay. He isn't the player he used to be, yet he is still a great striker and has shown so with his performances. By the way he has fit into the team, he should be probably first choice together with Crouch up front. Benitez is sure to bring in one or two strikers in the summer and some of the strikers we have should leave (I would say Morientes and Cisse). New strikers would probably make him third or fourth choice striker but then again Rafa likes to rotate the squad so he can get his fair share of games. He loves the club and would sign a contract that would be more beneficial for the club than himself (wage wise).

He has shown that he can still play at top level for the club he loves and with a good run of games I can only see him improve. About his age, class is permanent. Just look at Romario, 39 years old and was the top scorer in Brazil last season. Im not saying that Fowler is just like Romario (IMO best striker in football history) but he can keep on playing for a few more years, especially in the team he loves.

I would keep him in a heartbeat.

The lad is still regaining fitness, and yet still has a sublime touch and brilliant finishing ability.

I'd offer him a 2-year contract with an option to extend it for another year.

I believe he should stay.  With the slew of games we played this year, depth has been a huge issue.  And when you look back, we have been extremely fortunate with injuries this season (unlike last campaign).  There is no way we can get someone of his quality, for what it is going to cost for RF to stay.  He loves the Red Jersey, he loves the fans, he loves the club.  This is a no brainer.

Rafa, resign God!!!

he should stay.... heart is one very important ingredient...and robbie has bags of it... even if he doesn't score, but the fact that he puts his all in each game lifts the rest of the lads as well... which is more than i can say for morientes... he might be giving his all, but it sure doesn't look like it... which makes it more frustrating for us fans watching...

I thought they are already in discussions to extend his contract to another season. I'm pretty sure Rafa wants him to go on another season. He's looked very good and is working very hard with all the coaches. Sign him on for another year, as Didi and hopefully Finnan.

This is a no-brainer IMO. Resign him. What's it gonna cost ? Bugger all. What do we have to lose? absolutly nothing. If we get 2 new stikers in the summer, then all it means is he will be warming the bench for awhile, costing very little a week in terms of wages. Compare that to the aboslute cack we have had on our wage list in previous years that have given us zero return. At least with Fowler you know he will do his best, and at least contribute something.

However next season I reckon he will be scoring for fun (if given the chance).

Yep definately a no -brainer , while i never thought he would be our answer to solve the forwards problems and knock in a pile, he done more then enough far as im concerned to get a contract.
To get a local highly experienced poacher passioniate for the club for next to nothing is a real coup, not to mention a public relation masterpiece

Considering Teddy Sheringham turned 40 yesterday and Robbies 30 on terms of fitness Sheringham is much fitter than Robbie.
Injuries have took there toll on him Im afriad he has never had bags of pace anyway but he is not mobile enough.
But he is a finisher and will always get you goals.
Rafa wants the players to work as a team that means to run for the full 90 mins.

Robbie cant do that, he can get much fitter Im sure, will he be happy with a place o the bench I think Yes.
I think he should be given a one year extention on his contract he wont want much in terms of wages.

He offers more than Morientes IMO Robbie to stay Fernando to go.

He still does what he always has and thats show great movement and pops up in the right place at the right time, he's looking 10 times fitter than when he first join.

Sign him Rafa! :)

I don't agree April 3rd is decision time for some reason, but I would offer him a rolling 1-year contract at the end of the season.  He'd take it and it wouldn't cost the club too much if he got a career-ending injury.  He's worth keeping for the lift he gives the club and the shirt sales alone, but I reckon he's got plenty more goals (and assists) in him yet.

I also can't see why Rafa would not keep him on, he still is a Brilliant player and can do alot but IMO like Cisse needs to be playing game in game out in order to bag loads of goals and however much I love him I can't see Rafa sticking with a solid front 2. But it would not hurt I think if he was givin a solid run in the team he would be a real asset maybe a bit old but ozozes class and his finshing and his composure may rub off on our other strikers plus he is another scoucer and potential captain if need be.
