BIRMINGHAM VS LIVERPOOL - FA CUP QUARTER FINAL BUILD UP

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby azriahmad » Tue Mar 21, 2006 11:34 am

I'd be extremely happy with a 1-0 win; no matter that their league position is under threat, Birmingham will still be fired up for this QF tie. I'm a bit concerned that Rafa may still play the bumbling Traore due to him being forced to schuffle his pact with the very busy game schedule.

I really hope that they become more focussed on surviving for the EPL next season, and would not give much emphasis on this tie.

i will be happy with a 0-1 win...... this would be my team...(rest reina, warnock, crouch & kewell for the derby)

                          Dudek
      Finnan    Carra    Agger    Traore
      Cisse    Alonso   Hamann   Garcia
                 Gerrard
                              Morientes

Mate is that team a wind-up ?
Why rest Reina, keeprs cant exactly get tired...mentally maybe, but he had a 3 game break not so long ago.
Also why drop Hyypia ?
We should play our strongest team, this is our only chance of a trophy this season and we are away.
They have nothing to lose so all the pressure is on us.
Traore starting ??? Are you kidding ?
There best player is Pennant who plays right wing and would be one on one with Traore most of the game if you have Garcia ahead of him. There would only be one winner there.
I would go with a normal 4-4-2
                    Reina

Finnan     Carra     Hyypia      Agger

Gerrard    Alonso Hamann      Kewell

                 Garcia

                        Crouch

I'd probably go with that team, except maybe Warnock in for Agger, but I don't think Benitez will.

Warnock's been playing well recently and he's the aggressive and pacy type of player that Pennant won't like playing against.  He get's caught out positionally sometimes but I can't see Pennant dribbling the ball past him at the moment.  Why do I have a bad feeling that Traore's going to start though?

I think Morientes will be recalled alongside Crouch and I think Hamann will make way for Alonso with Kromkamp playing on the right.  But after Sunday's formation, I don't think anyone can confidently predict what Benitez will do!

                             Reina

Finnan        Carra           Hyypia            Traore

Kromkamp    Gerrard        Alonso            Kewell

                 Crouch        Morientes

That's my bet on what Benitez might try anyway, but it wouldn't be my first choice to be honest.

I get edgy every time Traore or the departed Josemi play for us.

We're playing 2 successive away games within 3 days and before the Fullham game at Anfield, we were showing tiredness both physically and mentally as the strikers were going through a goal drought. I'd love for us to win the FA Cup but it has diminished in importance to the CL. While there's still a chance to catch Manure, I hate to see any of the important first team players getting injured in a silly fixture congestion.

Erm, I liked much the 5-4-1 formation against Newcastle, I'd stick with that formation, forget about two strikers today, the most important thing is not to lose. Besides, we used better the wings last match, Warnock helped a lot Kewell, and with Agger, Hyppia and Carra we were very solid.

I hope we win.

Alot of people seem to think that they wont be paying much attention in this tie due to their league position but i'm not convinced.
They have nothing to lose and its a one off game for a chance in the F.A cup semi final...when was the last time Birmingham got that far ?
I would play as stronger team as possible, hopefully go a couple of goals up and bring players off then.
We still have 4 days rest until the derby.

Well judging by official site article about Rafa's justified annoyance over this fixture and the term full use of squad will be needed tonight, i doubt it be our strongest line up going out in the first XI

Agger has played about 4-5 times and looks a very good player, decent in the air and great with the ball at his feet.

I would stick with the tried and trusted combination of Hyypia and Carragher for now, but as Riise is struggling with injury i would play Agger Left back tonight.
He would be a far better option than Traore imo.

I think that Morrientes and Traore will figure in this match.

I wouldn't mind Agger being played to rest Carra or Hyppia. It's Traore playing that is a major worry because he is an accident waiting to happen, and only just about shades Boumsong as a better defender - that is not confidence inspiring. Also, Birmingham will be much more physical than Newcastle and this will trouble Morrientes.

If Rafa continues to play 3 at centreback with 2 overlapping wing-backs as we did against Newcastle, I wouldn't really mind either as we played well with that formation.
