This is a very contentious issue i know. But, with the way things are currently going at Liverpool FC financially, can we really afford to dis-regard this option?
Its been well publicised that LFC has been touted about world-wide for investment, to no apparent avail. Yet at the same time clubs such as Arsenal, Man U, Chelsea and even Rangers have attracted good sponsorship, naming rights etc deals.
Man U walk away from vodafone and look close to signing a mega deal with LG. A company who became a 'collective' sponsor with LFC but for very little money. We dragged our feet with Carlsberg, who stayed on but for peanuts. But this resulted in a delay in making our CL winning shirt which not that many were made. Terrible business!
For the CL winners, we never maxamised even 50% of what we were capable of earning. The wranglings with Carlsberg, had a detrimental effect with our kit supplier, Reebok. We have announced a deal with Adidas from next season onwards. However, the deal is totally dwarfed by the one they have with Chelsea. Even though we sell more shirts and merchandise worldwide.
All of this has meant that Moores and Parry haven't capatalised on our status as European Champions.
Now the new stadiums projected costs have soared from 80m to 170m, without any final answers being given. The amount is soaring. Surely, the idea of a groundshare with Everton is not as non-sensicle as we think?
The council is all in favour of it, funding would come from 'capital of culture' pot, and any other costs would be halved with them.
Now most of you will go on about rivalry, blue-noses, scum and all that nonsence. But, please dont tell me that Milan and Inter dont have that? Lazio and Roma certainly do. Its far more nastier there than it ever will be between us and everton!! Yet they share.
The fact of the matter is it can work and bring much needed investment into both clubs and the city as a whole. I seen the Munich stadium the other week, and by god is it impressive. Thet share with 1860, and whenever Bayern are at home its lit up red and then blue for 1860.
I hope we could have a stadium of our own, but it is looking unlikely. So the groundshare with everton is a definate yes for me.
