Ground share - Ill get slated for this but please read

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby BOODIDDY » Tue Mar 14, 2006 6:12 pm

This is a very contentious issue i know. But, with the way things are currently going at Liverpool FC financially, can we really afford to dis-regard this option?

Its been well publicised that LFC has been touted about world-wide for investment, to no apparent avail. Yet at the same time clubs such as Arsenal, Man U, Chelsea and even Rangers have attracted good sponsorship, naming rights etc deals.

Man U walk away from vodafone and look close to signing a mega deal with LG. A company who became a 'collective' sponsor with LFC but for very little money. We dragged our feet with Carlsberg, who stayed on but for peanuts. But this resulted in a delay in making our CL winning shirt which not that many were made. Terrible business!

For the CL winners, we never maxamised even 50% of what we were capable of earning. The wranglings with Carlsberg, had a detrimental effect with our kit supplier, Reebok. We have announced a deal with Adidas from next season onwards. However, the deal is totally dwarfed by the one they have with Chelsea. Even though we sell more shirts and merchandise worldwide.

All of this has meant that Moores and Parry haven't capatalised on our status as European Champions.

Now the new stadiums projected costs have soared from 80m to 170m, without any final answers being given. The amount is soaring. Surely, the idea of a groundshare with Everton is not as non-sensicle as we think?

The council is all in favour of it, funding would come from 'capital of culture' pot, and any other costs would be halved with them.

Now most of you will go on about rivalry, blue-noses, scum and all that nonsence. But, please dont tell me that Milan and Inter dont have that? Lazio and Roma certainly do. Its far more nastier there than it ever will be between us and everton!! Yet they share.

The fact of the matter is it can work and bring much needed investment into both clubs and the city as a whole. I seen the Munich stadium the other week, and by god is it impressive. Thet share with 1860, and whenever Bayern are at home its lit up red and then blue for 1860.

I hope we could have a stadium of our own, but it is looking unlikely. So the groundshare with everton is a definate yes for me.

Ok, just to start, Groundshare - never, I'd rather we got relegated.

Even though we sell more shirts and merchandise worldwide
And this is the thing that upsets me the most, I was in mexico on holiday recently and went looking for a football shirt, went into a sports store, there were manu shirts, arsenal shirts, even t-shirts commemerating the last year at highbury, even fecking newcastle shirts there, and the european champions - not a sasuge, We really need to sort the merchendising of this club out.

If you wont share a bus with one. Where were you in 86 and 89? If you aint gonna make a sensible post then :censored: off.

Do you work with one? Do you speak to any? if yes then your opinion is invalid.

I agree with most of your post mate.Wasted oppurtunites, bad buisness managment
Touting the world for investment.I believe we will only get serious investment[not sponsorship deals, although these are of great importance]when David Moores steps down as Chairman. He cant really expect an individual to bankroll the club, and not be the Chairman.

But as far as a ground share goes, sorry not interested. You mentioned rivalry, bluenose scum etc.yeah maybe imature cant help the way Ifeel about it.Rivalry beetween Evertonians and Liverpudlians used to be friendly banter, not anymore. The friendly Derby, havent been to one of those for years,in fact Ihavent been in Goodison Park for yeaLrs and have no intention of evergoing in there again.

It makes economic sense to ground share, but for who of course we would get help from European money/Mereyside development etc.How could Everton invest the same amount of money as Liverpool,we would be contributing more than Everton and they would be reeping the benifits.Liverpool Football Club was founded when Everton refused to pay/or couldnt afford to pay the rent nothing has changed, they still dont want to pay there way.

You state the council supports a groundshare. No suprise there, when was the last time they got anything right.

Good post mate,Iknow were your coming from,But Ipray it never happens.
You don't appreciate a lot of stuff in school until you get older.

i hope it doesn't happen but we dont seem to have an alternative. We must be decisive and move swiflty. Just watch arsenals accounts in the next few years.

Not really. To my understanding we currently have 120M to put into the nw stadium and require investmant but if correct funds arnt sought for building a new ground the the money will be put into players. They should jjust expand Anfield to be honset.
