Perhaps we should just put in a 6m bid for Anelka and take a gamble on his attitude. Maybe Fenerbache would even agree to a direct swop for Cisse *if Cisse agrees to such a move. 1 attitude player for another.

Then we could at least have a 50-50 chance on getting a top striker *if Anelka is still anything like him in Arsenal days* for minimal costs.

Then spend whatever transfer fees on a good right winger and CB. Maybe a geniune central playmaker if we have enough.

Every one knows we need a striker, but I don't think Anelka is the answer.  I think we need to look to the future, not the past.  Robbie's return was a shrewd one, but we can't afford to bring back any former heroes and I include MO in that.  Let's move on.

We must have at least £11m to spend, as we were about to fork that out for Simao, so if we sell Nando (£2m) and Cisse (£8m), that gives us around £20m and a whole lot of wages each week to play with.

I'd go for Fernando Torres with that amount of cash, failing that Jermaine Defoe, who can't get a game at Tottenham, and we could pick up for around £6m I would imagine.

This season will be a huge learning curve for the team, after the CL last year coming so early in the revival.  It will also, I'm afaid be a "what if" season.  What if we'd had a clincial striker....we could still be in the CL and be much closer to Chelsea than we are.

I expect a clear out in the summer...Nando, Cisse, Traore and maybe Mellor and Kirkland to WBA.

That should generate enough cash to land the RM we need and ffs, get a striker who can score some goals Rafa!!

Some info on torres here.

It's no coincidence that the teams with the best strikers do consistantly well in Europe.. Look at Inter, Real, Barca, Juve. They all have proven world class strikers. i know they don't win it every year but they are always there, or thereabouts. We won it last year by refusing to be beaten by any team, regardless of the "on paper" aspect of the opposition. But, and this is a big BUT, espirit-de-corps gets exposed eventually, as we were against Benefica. Sure we fought, sure we were the better team, but when you ain't got a world class finisher, you will lose to inferior teams!! We've wasted a huge collective amount of money on failed strikers, Mori, Cisse, Diouff,  Baros (I'm fair tempted to throw in Crouch here as well, but will give him 'til the end of the season) What did we pay for them collectively?? Surely enough to go a long way to buying a world proven striker!! I know peeps will say "get real", we can never afford a Shevshenko, Adriano, Ronaldihno etc, but if you add up the amount we've wasted on donkeys, we may not be a million miles away! Defensively, we're good! Midfield is one of the best, up front we're let down. Get that right and we'll win the league and make last 4 most years in European Cup, most years!! Mediocre strikers will give mediocre placings! Simple as!

I can't say I'm surprised that we crashed out of the Champions League. It was only a matter of time before the lack of fire power bit us on the backside. It's a problem we've had all season, it has finally collapsed and we risk throwing everything away this season, all the hard work will go to waste. Which would be ashame because we've made mass improvements this season.

I think Rafa needs to wake up and realise that we need to buy a proven prolific striker, his method of having the midfield scoring most of the goals isn't working anymore and he has no plan b on the table. It was just a matter of time before things went pear shaped. Garcia isn't scoring like last season, Kewell doesn't seem to be popping them in, Gerrard isn't and neither is Xabi. On top of that Cisse isn't, Nando isn't, Fowler looks the most likely to score but hasn't and Crouch isn't.

It's a huge problem when you have an attacking force that cannot score. We have no problem in creating chances but takin them is another matter all together.

It will be disappointing not to finish 2nd and win the FA cup this season.

Get rid of Morientes, Crouch and Fowler, they all get plenty of opportunities and score no goals.

Cisse gets no opportunities and if he gets a run of games lik Nando does, he will score goals and become more adapting to the team, and become more of an effective player for us.
