CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE VS BENFICA - the biggest match of the season

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

This should be the sort of match we rise for.  After Saturdays dire performance by our front men, Benfica will really fancy their chances....and that is usually where we hit teams.

to be honest i'm not worried about benfica one bit, i'm more concerned about what we're going to do infront of goal. you can bet your bottom dollar that we'll dominate the game but we just need to find that cutting edge from somewhere.

i'll put my mortgage on it now. benfica will not score in this game. if we turn up and bring our "a game" i'm confident we'll get through. :)

i'm going for another 3-1 thriller.  I think Benfica will nick 1 early on and that will force us to push and get goals....hope i'm wrong mind!

i really fancy us against benfica big time  the crowd at anfield on wednesday will be a bit special and it will help to see us through  gerrard and alonso need big games if there on song benfica,s defence will not cope at all  some of you are saying we will score 3 or 4 goals  nothing would shock me  im going for a 3-0 victory and a great night to remember...   :;):

Your the one in dreamland mate. You'd be lucky if you even scored one at Anfield.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man.

This is the game that is tailor made for Robbie Fowler, this is the game that will truly make him realise what he has missed for the last few years while he has been 'on loan' at Leeds and Citeh.

I thought robbie took his 'goal' superbly on Saturday, and was gutted for lad that it was not given.

Come on Robbie, earn your contract son!!

Good luck to all the boys...............we are all rooting for ya  :buttrock

Game could go a number of ways................

We need to score 1 or 2 early on, in the first 25 mins. the longer the game goes without us scoring the harder it will become.! if we score early, with crowd support, flood gates may open.

Our team may start off being cautious, as we cannot afford to concede. could start off edgy in defense knowing a lot is at stake. Especially if benfica start going down the wings like in Leg 1.

If they score first.....its heart in your mouth time.

If its 0-0 at half time , and they score 2nd half first, i think we are out, unfortunately. as scoring 3 is a big ask.

alternatively, if we score second half first , we will go through.

However if we score 1 goal, I dont think it will be enough,as they could hang on the whole match, but then score in the last minute to go through.

If Cisse plays and we dont score, but he misses a bundle, then Rafa shold not play him again this season as punishment.

Its all about concentration, determination, and the Kop scaring the Sh*t out of Benfica, making them think, I wish i'd stayed at home.

Whats crucial in this game I think, is the fact to score early, when they are on the rack.

Still in the balance.

After watching the REDS yesterday I'd deffo leave Cisse in his Hummer, on the couch at home...anywhere except on the pitch cos he is a liability as far as I'm concerned. I don't like being so harsh about any LFC player but the man's a joke ???

Liverpool have scored 7 goals in 9 Premiership games in 2006 and NONE have been scored by strikers :O In the FA Cup Pongo got a couple but he's at Blackburn for reasons I'm still trying to fathom which leaves Crouch who scored against the Mancs, Nando who has zero confidence and Fowler the only out and out goal scorer we have at present which is why I believe we may well bow out On Tuesday :(

Suffice to say I'd love to be proved wrong and I'll be shouting my head off with the rest for another famous LFC victory and praying  and hoping they prove me wrong and march on into the last 8 .........

Walk on .........

If the crowd played, greek and turkish teams would win more.. the atmosphere is important of course, but what really matters is the players, the team.
