a real fan will be on here posting 6000+ posts and getting ribbed by all his gooner mates for being on here instead of doing work
a real fan gets choked watching the champions league final
a real fan will have wathced the gooner game on valentines day and turned down a half decent date

but seriously forks.. a real fan has passion and a sort of love for the club, the playes, the commoradary between other supporters (that smile on the bus when u see one in the top. that hug with the stranger in the pub when u score)

maybe i'm not as big fan as yous, but i 've never spent my day without, at least, thinking, and reading about LFC since 25 years ago everyday. never goes the same to anything else in my life, even eating, i once or twice didn't eat within 24 hours for some reason

Well, you have made many points I agree but particularly this one I disagree, as I've seen many good respected mates in Anoeta, supporting Spanish clubs against foreigners, and they're spotless in the stadium.

I don't think that in this forum there's such a "fan purity" test, whatsoever. My team is Real Sociedad, but I have no shame to admit to my friends that in my heart LFC has an important place aswell. My mates know I'm a die hard Real Sociedad supporter, the uni mates that were of Athletic Bilbao, learnt to avoid me in bantering wars, as I always won, and so did a bandwagon bástard that used to support Manchester United just because that come back they did against Bayern (IIRC).

My heart is not pure LFC, and yet, I've felt welcome by the 92% of the forum from moment one. And I have no doubts that I bring LFC in the heart, because when we win I'm happy, and when we lose I'm gutted. I now have selected fields of anfield road, as the mp3 that wakes me up in the morning, so yes, I can say I love Liverpool F.C.

The lack of pureness was never a problem for the mates here, IMHO. Nevertheless, I always tried to speak with care about the team when the things looked bad, specially last year and in the beginning of this season, and I always paid an extra attention to the mates that go to the matches (Dalglish even in away games). With this I mean, that no matter how true LFC supporter you are or just a newbie, if you talk with the proper respect about the team, even being incredibly honest, you're going to be respected, IMHO.

But if you login and say, this player is cráp the other is that, you don't explain why, you say Rafa doesn't get it in the EPL, and you're 5678Km away, it's more than likely that a true fan (as in regular in the stadium) like Leon will be pi$$ed off. Because you are already gutted about the defeat, and what you don't need is slating from a guy that perhaps hasn't even seen the match. It's then when those comments about "FFS you haven't been in a match never, you fake fan" arise.

FWIW, in a nutshell, don't feel guilty because you can't go to the matches, or you're far away from Liverpool, but if you're going to slate somebody, make sure you know what you're talking about, sometimes we talk because of what we read, or after watching some highlights.

This kind of debate seems to re-surface now and again so here's my thoughts on the matter.A re-hash of a post from october 2003.
From the late 60's too 1973 attended 10-12 home games every season.
1973-74 season too the 1977-1978 inc. attended all home games and an occassional away game.
1978 got a job. upto 1980 attended every home game and 50% away games.
1980-81 season till April 1989 attended every game Liverpool played except a large majority of European away games.
1989-90 season upto getting married in April 94 attended all home games and 1/3 of away games.
Since 1994 one wife 4 kids and a massive mortgage has limited my Liverpool viewing to nearly all home games hardly any away games to shout about but 2 European games,both cup finals.
I count myself lucky because of where I live,the money I earned and the comparative low cost of viewing matches when I attended.Does this make me more of a true fan than somebody who can't get to Anfield.I say no it does not.Ther are fans/supporters all over the globe who are as big a Red as me and I appreciate their allegiance.Sadly theresome local fans who be-little supporters who can't make the trip to Anfield on a regular basis claiming they are not true fans because of geography.Well I'm glad Liverpool is a multi -cultural and multi national club for the fans.
Even our team is Global.

It amazes me that there could be two types of fans "fake" 'n' "real". If that's the case then surely the fans (like myself who rarely go to Anfield) are what you would call "fake" supporters 'n' those who go to Anfield every match or most matches are what you would call "Real" fans as they are helping support the club by giving them match revenue therefore every single penny of thiers goes into the club, unlike when you purchase merchandise from say JJB Sports or Footlocker.

Maybe I'm generalising far too much 'n' maybe this issue doesn't have much relevance but I'm just a bit confused as to why people (not just our fans) brand other ppl as "fake supporters".

YAWN.

For me its simple.

A fan watchs the reds sparadically, tv, video clips, highlights and one game a season.

A supporter goes the game regular, mostly home games and the odd away.

An avid supporter goes to most of the games, home, away and abroad.

so as i live in london and work stupid hours im not a supporter but a fan?

i agree that an avid fan is special, but i dont see myself as any less of a fan than anyone else just due to my circumstances.

its all opinion tho.

but as ive typed this i realise i could go to more games than i do, but... i dunno now.
ask any of my mates and theyd say im a mad liverpool fan, always on about them, watching them on tv, dvd, everything, singing, chanting. in the pubs im always jopined by strangers in liverpool tops singing along
