What does it say about football? - Success on pitch means little

When Real Madrid were a good team about 5 years ago, they were way behind Manu and possibly some others in turnover.

Then their president sold real work players like Malele for celebrities like Beckham, the team went to ruin and hasn't won a trophy in a few years.

I thought it showed that the president is a fool but he is not as Celebrities bring in the merchandise and they now are the biggest club financially in the world. Women and Asia know very little (generally, no accusations of sexism, racism please) about football but believe whatever hype is given to them.

Success on the pitch is worth less than fame. Why not just buy Tom Cruise as our full back then?
