RedorDead wrote:I think SWP would have been a great signing last season for about £10 mill. Now he has gone to Chelsea for £21 mill he has priced himself out of a career basically. Chelsea wouldn't sell him for a penny less than £15 mill which for a player who has played just a few hours football all season is out of the question. Shame as he would have fitted into our side perfectly I think. He is certainly a better player Jermain Pennant in my opinion, I know Pennant has a lot of admirers on this forum but for SWP is by far the better player, his attitude alone would make him a preferable signing, Pennant is on the front pages as often as the back and Rafa wouldn't want anyone like that.
Having just said all that I would take Joaquim over them both, I just think the guy is absolute class and would make our midfield one of the absolute best in the world. I don't know how long a contract he has left and how much he'd cost and of course Rafa will want two strikers come the summer so it may be impossible but I'd still love to see him at Anfield.

My thoughts too RedorDead - except for the Joaquin bit.  I just can't see in him what everyone else does apparently. So far this season, when I've seen him play, most defences seem to be able to handle him reasonably well, I wouldn't say he's a match winner worth of such rave reviews. Therefore I'd prefer to see what, 10-15mill quid(?) better spent.  10-15mil for a foreign player equates to 15-20mill for a british player and he's not that good sorry.

If we are going to invest big money in 1 player, I would say, we should get a world class striker. As for the RM, we should buy what is good for us (based on Rafa's judgement).

Forget Joaquin. He's off to Real Madrid. Would have happened sooner if Beckham didnt sell so many shirts.

We've all learnt from the Stevie G affair that if a player wants to leave, you have no choice but to let him go. Contracts count for nothing.

If SWP wants out, they have to let him go. The issue for us will be paying 12m for a player that would normally go for 6m.

I cant remember which of Rafa's boys (they're all called Paco something) has all these Sth American connections, but expect to see another 18 year old  Messi signed up. And the book is not yet closed on Aimar either, who will be a starter at the World Cup whilst Messi will come off the bench

Is Juninho Pernembucano (LYON) a winger?
I think he can play on the right & he has a gr8 set-piece ability.
May be a lil old 30 or something but he is quality. Can do the job for a couple of seasons & then Barragan can take over.

Pederson plays in the left...not the right...

For Juninho Pernembucano...i would believe he play a playmaker role just like SG...

Liverpool need a big signing, there's alot of players in our team who are really not cutting it.SWP would be a huge boost for us, but will he want to leave Jose's star team that's another question. the way i see it SWP could be a super sub for a long time in Jose's team, if he came to liverpool he would be a permanent member in the starting line up, but either way Liverpool need a major signing and if it's SWP then great for us.

I like SWP and rate him highly. I believe he would do a tremendous job for LFC if he joined. Feeding off Gerrards and Alonso's ammunition he would give us that spark that we sometimes lack to kill teams off. The issue I have would be how much we would have to pay for him. £15m is too much. There are decent players about for a lot less. I hope I don't live to regret these words but I was not impressed with Simao the other night. A bit of a premadona in my eyes. Struts about like he owns the place. That wouldn't mix well with the likes of Stevie G and Carra!! Think we should forget going after him!!

I also rate Wright - Phillips highly. Unfortunately he made a big mistake in chossing Chelsea over us, and he know's it!

In my opinion he's not a better player than Joaquin, but he's certainly on par with Pennant, if not better. He offer's a bigger and better goal threat compared to Pennant and in general is equally as good everwhere else on the pitch, except defensively maybe. Either way I'd take any one of those mentioned players.

PS, the season Pennant joined Birmingham I suggested we should have made a move for him - the reaction, most people laughed me off the board!!! Some different opinion's now alright.

i'll hold my hands up and admit, i didn't rate Pennant 12 months ago.....especially after he was sent to prison.  However, the lad looks good and seems to have turned it all around.  SWP is a good player who, like Barton now, looked great in an average Man City side.  Problem is, as with others players who move to bigger sides, he's been shown to be rather limited in what he has to offer and if we were going to buy a sole winger (who can't do anything else) i'd rarther we didn't spend 22 million!

pennant still ahs too much baggae tho and joaquin is a big ole cry baby who cant always deliver when needed.

the reason people are slating SWP is coz he hasnt played much this season . hed be a great addition to our squad i think

on the subject of new players there has been alot of ppl on this forum talking about how we need to buy a real goal scorer in the summer.Noone i think has mention Yakubu,he proved the last 3 seasons that he can score goals at this level, only problem would be £££££££££ as he cost £8 mil a year ago.It would be another expensive risk buying a striker from a foreign league, whats your thoughts on this?

I'd buy him, he's a great player that is completely wasted at chelski.

I wouldnt pay £21 mill for him tho, not even half that.

I'd like him to sign in the summer.

eeI'd prefer Joaquin tho :D
