Marcelo lippi - Are you listening the board?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby stmichael » Fri Apr 30, 2004 12:34 pm

just read on the bbc website that marcelo lippi is leaving as juventus boss at the end of this season. he also claimed that he doesn't have another club lined up for the forseeable future.

are you listening liverpool board?

if houllier has one season left then surely the muppets who run this club should make an enquiry about this guy taking over. he's won 5 italian serie a titles in two spells at juve and i believe he speaks relatively good english.

the guy is proven. what do you reckon? critics would say that his italian mentality would make us as boring and defensive as we are now. but lets be honest, the guy is a brilliant tactician and gets results.

thoughts please?

he is a fantastic manager, don't know how he'd go in England but as you said he is tactically very sound.

Would be nice but I can't see it, as GH will probaly still be here next season and I think someone will snap up Lippi before we get the chance.

Who knows next season we might miracuosuly improve under Houllier :), unlikely but I remain optimsitic.

we will improve because realistically it couldn't get any worse than this season. i hope we go out and play in the manner in which we started the season because that is what the fans want to see.

Lippi is a world class coach.

I remember reading an article in the Sunday Times which compared Ferguson to Lippi and Lippi's record in Europe is far better than Ferguson's.

The major drawback to Lippi is that he's in his sixties and is probably only a short term option.

Lippi has a fantastic record and like JBG says, he is getting on, but then look at Bobby Robson. Lippi is a very cagey coach and his teams play the Italian way. He wouldn't be my 1st choice but is certainly worth a look.

Lippi would be great for the club.

The board must have at least looked at possible replacements for GH and if none of the ones they want are available now, then Lippi could be a great short term option for a year or two if we could get him.

Sadly can't see it happening though.

I dont think Lippi is the answer short or long term but having said that he would be a huge improvement on houllier.
He will struggle at whatever club he goes to due to the touchline smoking ban coming in next season.
Smith to Shankly:My thigh is a bit sore, but I think I could play.
Shankly to Fagan:Tell him,Joe.He has got no chance of playing.
Smith to Fagan:Tell him to sod off.It is not his leg,it's mine.
Shankly to Smith:Oh no son.You are wrong, son. It is not your leg.
It is Liverpool Football Club's leg.

I always thought that Lippi was 63 or 64 but the BBC teletext put his age at 56 today.

Does anyone have a definite age for him?

I know that the Spanish and Italians have a bad reputation for firing coaches but Kippi is being let go after a bad season with Juventus: this is despite the fact that his record is simply excellent over the years.

Puts the Gerard Houllier situation into perspective, doesn't it?

I think there is a very good chance that a top Italian coach will come to England this summer as Coppello, Lippi, Trappatoni and Mancini have all said they would like a go in England.

Obviously Chelsea would have first choice but the only other job available is the Spurs hotseat, and for all the purported attractions of London no manager in his right mind would join Spurs ahead of Liverpool.

I would love to see Mr. Lippi at Anfield. He is a winner. Pure and simple.
