After the Wigan game and speaking from a glass half full perspective, the Morientes Fowler combo easily looks our most potent to date. Apart from Morientes' mistake at Wigan when he continued to run for a ball that Fowler was easily going to get and getting cought offside in the process, I thought the two of them showed a pretty good understanding.
Dudek had a great game on the weekend, the one top notch save he had to make was from the horror slice from Hyppia which was really Sami's only mistake of the game. To me that says that the defence as a whole played well and showed why the Finnan, Carra, Hyypia and Riise combination is our best and most frugal combination.
For me Kewell, Gerard and Alonso all had average games by their standards but still, each made several contibutions to the game which perhaps goes to show what high expectations we have of them and how harshly others judge when the usual 'brilliant' individual performances are not forthcoming.
Didi deserves another run out against the Ar$e. After such a long spell out its easy to forget just how good he is. Rather than have Sissoko running around all over the place, Hamman offers the ability to breaks up opposition attacks and covers the back four in what can only be described as a 'professional' manner.
At home, on a better pitch and with a fit SG, I think we should play the best midfield in the prem. With Hamman as rearguard, Alonso the creative general and Stevie and Harry swapping flanks at their discretion Rafa's only real task left is to find a goal scoring combination up front out of Fowler, Cisse, Mori, Crouch and Garcia.
It would be nice to have the opportunity to see Fowler and Garcia together up front one time, I kinda get the feeling that those two would scare the bejesus out of quite a number of defences. At least more than any combo with Crouch, Cisse or Mori in it!
