League's top scorers - Henry is 15 goals ahead of owen,, is he,

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby bedlovedays » Wed Apr 28, 2004 12:59 pm

I see Shearer 22 and Henry 29 at the top,,,,,
Anelka has more goals than Owen,,,,,( remember we had Anelka and decided to let him go)
Owen is the only player we have on the list,,,,,that means there are many many players ahead of our best,,,,Gerrard,,,Kewell,,,,and our other strikers,,,,,

What do these stats tell you?

Owen was injured for some time, I'm suprised he has got so many in a season like this.

it tells me that our two best strikers have both missed three months of the season through injury. owen still has 17 in 35 which is respectable considering the service (or lack of) he receives.

Henry is a great striker but with the service he gets, even I'd score 20 goals a season. I think Owen has done great this season with poor service, limited games and a dip in form. I'd would look even better if he'd coverted his penaltys.

ckay is right. With better service, I am sure he will score more goals and the confidence will be high, then he will score even more. We are in a vicious cycle right now not helped by i) negative tactics employed ii) lack of genuine quality service upfront. We can't compare Owen with Henry this season. The contribution (and quality) of players in Arsenal is a mile ahead of us, with so many in our squad underperformed (you know who). With the tactics employed by GH, I wondered why he choosed to play 'not-to-lose' rather than going all out to win it?

Exactly..with the type of service Henry's getting, even Heskey could manage a decent 10-15 goals a season there... The problem lies more with the lacklustre and the dearth in a creative playmaker in our midfield line up...Owen, with all the injuries he's faced, has had a pretty decent season so far....

Don't blame Owen completely.   at least Henry has player capable of providing for him   we have just 1  SG

I would like to see how many goals the others on the list would have scored if they had been playing for a tactically inept manager who played him up front on his own with no service most of the time and even during home games.

It's not even a fair comparison.Any fool knows that the A#se play football that is far more fluent than ours. Their game has a 'togetherness' an a 'completeness' that Liverpool can't even come close to. They don't string together 6 or 7 passes and move no further forward. They're incisive and look to play their forwards 'in' rather than play in hopeful crosses.
With that kind of footballing philosophy and the execution of it they will(and do) create many more chances than we do.
They have a creativity borne out of MOVEMENT and UNDERSTANDING honed in creative and productive training sessions.
Makes you wonder what we do in training eh.
MO will do very well to be scoring as many goals as TH.
What would be interesting would be to see how they would do were they able to swap teams for a season.(PLEASE!) :D

Everything has pretty much been said but look
Owen 14
VanNaistelrooy 18
Owen injured for three months
VanNistelrooy injured for last three weeks.

Compare Owen with Henry ? :D

SERVICE-Style of Football-ATTACK,etc,etc.

like to see Henry up front on his own with Houllier
as his manager.

I would also love to see Owen in Arsenal, and Henry in Liverpool with 3 months of injury.

Rough 'if'
But tells a bit more.

he has done ok considering the sh*t service he has had!!! Dont think the system that GH is playing suits Owen at all.  You cant play the lad up front on his own he is screaming for a partner.  I just get the feeling Cisse aint coming to partner Owen he is coming to replace him!!!!  Not good news i am afraid, you can just tell with Michaels body language he aint happy. Dont think is fair on Baros either the lad aint done f*ck all wrong, GH is just being stubborn cos the fans want him on the pitch.

I never wanna find out, but how many goals do you think a fit Mikey would get playing in that Arsenal team with Henry as a partner? It would be ridiculous - Lets hope Arsenal don't bid for him coz he may ask himself the same question.
