Lets start with Fowler and Cisse against Wigan. What have we got to lose? Morientes looks like he wouldn't score if he played till next Tuesday (his abject failure to show an ounce of anticipation for Fowlers dummy and go tonight summed him up for me) while Crouch in all probablitity is in need of some contemplation on the bench.
Cisse is just Cisse, all petulance, quivering bottom lip and frowns but, and it's a big but, he is the only one out of four strikers who posesses any pace whatsoever. He is the only one who will force the opposition to defend 10 yards deeper. I have this crazy notion. Call me mad, p!ssed or whatever, that Fowler maybe the man to unlock the Cisse enigma a little. Maybe the little fella can drop off and play him in with a subtle little deflection. Maybe a dummy or an overhead flick exposing the last man to Cisse's one major attribute. Maybe Cisse will do nothing as usual but the fact that Wigan go deep to counteract his pace will allow Fowler to get in amongst it in the box. Maybe it's all nonsense but they can't really posess less of a goal threat than Morientes and Crouch. Let's go with it.

Is he the one that turns himself with the ball close to his feet, in a very little square of terrain? Has he got a world class ball control? to be successful the way we're playing, he'd need that.

Anyway, you're right. Fowler-Cisse is an unproven combination, and I'd love to watch and judge it. :)

Jeez yet another wind-up merchant. It's like a scene from Blade Runner on here. You never know who the replicants are. I hope I've spelt that right.

Like I said elsewhere, I'd like to have a look at both Fowler/Crouch and Fowler/Cisse combinations.

Odd to me that the only times Fowler's been on for us so far, he's been partnered with Morientes, who's possibly the only striker in the Premiership even slower than Robbie is.

seems a fair idea, these things don't always work but we've tried everything else and haven't found goals.
i think our only clinical finisher is steven gerrard.

Wat did i mention about moro & crouch combination ?  :no

Anyway, looking forward, i kinda disagree with starting fowler in the premiership. Fowler isn't fit, he ain't gonna be fit this season. So lets just keep him as a sub and bring him on later in the match. But in europe, where the pace is slower, fowler should be able to start a match.

So who should head our attack now ? I can only think of 2. Cisse & Garcia. And i agree with johnbull, in that squad rotation should be kept to the minimum. We don't have quality substitute players (unlike chelsea).

The formation i would pick.

                           Reina
       Finnan    Carra    Hyppia   Riise
                          Hamann
       Gerrard          Alonso         Kewell
                      Garcia
                                Cisse

But rafa is quite stubborn. He will still persist with sissoko instead of hamann. And will continue to start with Crouch every game......

I am all for Fowler/crouch or Fowler/cisse, Fowler would make them play better, Cisse would make up for the pace, Crouch couled create room, either combo would be fine, :censored: to morientes.

Mori has been dissapointing of late, especially partnering next to Crouch. Crouch has also been a let down with his headers and general linking up play, his skill and first touch is lacking and his standard has dropped dramatically. Cisse when played in his preferred position is about as effective as a fish net used for contraception. His runs, shooting, link up play, and second efforts is hopeless. Fowler, I'm not entirely sure, as all of you are, about his entire role for the rest of the campaign. I'm sure Rafa will start Robbie in the latter parts of the Prem, but he should partner up with Mori sooner than later, because Mori's link up and passing game is much better than Crouch at the mo'. The two can feed off each other, and also allow Mori to get into his own game and not to over rely on Crouch's lay offs.

One thing is for sure, and that is, the long ball to Crouch isn't working now. It's become too easy for opposition to shut us out. Even though Crouch is a great tall target in the box, his first touch is lacklustre, and when the rest of the squad sees that time after time Crouch is wasteful, it becomes demoralising.

Another thing is that even though we hadn't conceeded a goal in a club record 13 games or so, I've noticed that once we conceed now, we become deflated too quickly, and drop our heads.

I'm not gonna say any more, except that this period is a minor lull, and thank god we haven't had a bad spell like last season away from home, and this weekend against Wigan will see us come up with the goods again. Have faith people, I know its tough, and I've lost a heap of cash in the last few games, but I still maintain the belief that we can still grab that second spot, even with Man Ure and Spurs breathing down our neck.

Agreed. It's become too easy for opposition to shut us out because it's predictable. We should be thinking about other options because the opposition knew that we dont have other way to score...frustrating.

Cause Gerrard is injured for the Wigna game, I would put my life on this team to win.

                   Reina (Dudek)

Finnan        Carra         Hyppia   Riise

Garcia        Hamann   Alonso
                                                 Kewell

                    Cisse        Fowler

Oh you wouldn't?

Perhaps I'll have to kill myself
