Undiscover talent

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Gerry.Adams » Sat Feb 04, 2006 5:52 pm

I have been thinking about writing this thread for quite a while so here goes( my 1st ever post !) :

Many of you are familiar with the G.A.A in Ireland ... the G.A.A  more or less acts as a mafia in every little village and town in Ireland.... All the talented and talentless younster player either Gaelic football or Hurling..... With this emerges lots of talented ( extreamely talented players) Whatever about hurling - not similiar to soccer  although it is a very skillful game played by really really fit  younster with enormous skill ( lots player soccer and are unreal ) but i think the gaelic footballers around ireland are wasted , they train three or four times a week at all ages from u12 to u18 and upwards......they don;t get payed and are amatuers.....their skill amazes everyone that ever watches them..they sell out croke park ( 80000 seats ) all the time and many other grounds. The irish rugby team has seen this market--- look at ireland;s backs in rugby they are lethal - geordan murphy , brian o driscoll and Gordon D'ARCY just a few, all these men were brought up playing football ...but the rugby clubs jumped in and converted them into rugby players....
Liverpool fc would do very well to grab these extreamely fit lads who would know their language and cost very little, why are we looking in africa and asia and even  the balkans when we have them here in ireland ?? irish people are fond of liverpool , due to historical connections, irish younsters would really jump at the chance to play for liverpool , imagine these guys who when they are young  are talented then when they get older they are treated like gods in their country - imagine if these guys were paid and were full time, they would be unreal

the few irish players getting their chance in england means that only a few succeed , i think if more were scouted  via scouts attending g.a.a matches then  a lot more would succeed...

is you think im a bit naive , ignore the post , i just thought it was worth considering :;):

:D Geraldo lol
This is something i thought about quite some time ago, when The scum at old trafford, brought over a certain Kevin Moran and Paul Mcgrath. I thought that would be the start of many but it didnt seem to happen unless it is elsewhere and we just dont hear about it.
I agree if more where scouted ,more would succeed and Liverpool has always had a few irish on their books so i say Go for it! :nod

denis irwin , roy keane  , packie bonner , robbie keane , niall quinn ( even played county football for dublin ) andy reid  ,duff  etc all played GAA and they arent bad,,, im just telling you this because where i am from , we have so many skillful young footballer( we arent even a footballing county -  we r a hurling county - but i know that all these class footballers are even better soccer players cus i v played with them at both - its just the GAA dominants Irish life, More scouting from Liverpool fc  if they pump more money into talented towns and villages around ireland then  all the talented might not be going to the GAA

it is a fair point because for such a small island there have been some quality player produced.

But it is up to the ifa to pick the best talent for there academy. if they want to play some pickey backwater sport it is there fault.

the money is in football and always will be

i know because thats because  if u play gaelic football your a legend in the county , but if u play soccer then  ther is good possibly your not going to make it because the F.A.I in ireland is so fcuked up and un-organised ,  u might view the GAA as backward but am afraid buddie ur wrong, what stadium in england devoted to soccer can match Croke Park OVER 80000 SEAT CAPACITY??? if liverpool fc and others set up  more facilities and competed with the GAA then ud see lots more class irish players playing in the E.P.L
