LFC VS CHELSEA - Build up...

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I wouldn't argue with a point, but I think we're due a big, big result. We've put a lot of average teams in their place this season, but now we need to kick on and actually start putting down some markers.

It would be lovely Ivor to really go there and make a statement I must admit. I was listening to the Manure game on the radio at work last night (Liverpool weren't on either channel) and when they went 4-1 down, the commentator and Barry horne were talking and the bloke says "really when you look at it, the only credible challengers to Chelsea over the next couple of seasons are Liverpool. They just seem to be getting stronger and stronger". I thought, Wow, at last somebody in the media is waking up and smelling the coffee. We must be the best kept secret in English football at the moment, why can none of them see that we are building a proper football team and that the "big three" is becoming a big two, with two of the old members on the sidelines? You switch on the telly and SKY have got our game way down the pecking order, if Fowler hadn't been playing Bolton would have got more coverage.
We turned in the performance against Manure but didn't get the result. The World could see we were much the better team. It would be really nice to go to Chelski and win 2 or 3 nil. Really make a statement, "we are Liverpool and we are back". Absolutely lovely but I think we may just be one season too early although I hope I'm wrong of course.

they have been :censored: chelsea in the last few weeks so it will be a 2-1 win for us or 1-1 draw. they will get a jammie goal like they always do when they play. it will be out of three players who will get the goal terry, cole,or lamppard. gerrard and fowler to score for us

In the general scheme of things, a draw is a good result, but with the table looking as it does, a win would definitely turn a lot of heads.

Last four games - 1 win, 2 draws, 1 loss. 5 points from 12. Bit of a shame when you look at what's been happening around us.

If we'd have got 12 from 12, we'd be only 8 points behind Chelsea, and 7 points clear of Man U. With 2 games in hand on both.

That's by the by though. Hasn't happened, and we need to move on.

What I want to see now is - instead of going on a stuttering run - strikers converting some of these chances that we're expertly creating, get a winning run going and hopefully then we can lock down second and have a fair bit of daylight between us and third.

Hope we can go there and get something, not being pessimistic but you have to look at the facts. When Charlton went there it was the first dropped points at Stamford Brigde this season. On the flip side though they are tiring and don't seem to have an effective plan A never mind plan B.

Can't see us winning to be honest.. in fact can't see us scoring.

Chelsea are the meanest defense in the Premiership, we only managed one against Birningham, so I can't see us scoring against Chelsea.

Sorry guys.. at best a goalless draw, more probable a 1-0 defeat!

It's in an away game like this, at Standford Bridge, that I can see Rafa breaking out the good old 4-5-1 formation.
Let's face it, one point away against Chelsea away would be a very good result.

We left a lot of room behind us going forward against the Brum yesterday as we rely on our full backs going forward to get in crosses, and that's fine against a team like Brum. But as we all know, Chelsea's deadliest weapon is their breakaway game with speedy wingers and a very skillful centre midfield.

As much as I'd love to see us go forward and steal Jose's rattle, I'm more than happy with going out on sunday and playing it safe, I don't want another repeat of that 4 - 1 result we conceded when we were "going to show them a leason" the last time.

Having said all that, I just want to thank you all for a good forum, I've been reading it vigorously since last June without actually posting anything. So here goes.

Come on you Reds!

Edit:  Oh, and if I've stolen somone's avatar by using one of the "default" ones, let me know and I'll toss one of my own pictures up.

a draw would be a great result here. i don't think they'll be many chances in the game. the match at anfield earlier in the season was a freakish game to say the least.

i do worry about our inability to create chances against the top sides, especially away from home. against manure the other week we were powder puff in the final third despite dominating possession in the midfield for long periods. against teams like chelsea you'll get two, maybe three chances maximum in a game and at the moment our strikers just aren't firing. we're fortunate that gerrard is scoring at a rate most strikers would be proud of recently.

will be happy with a draw here, i wouldnt play Garcia, watching him last night and he couldt hit a 2 yard pass, dont get me wrong i rate him but he does the hard stuff easy and the easy stuff hard.

i would start fowler and bring him off when he is tired, this is the team id go for ..

                     reina
finnAN  samie  jamie  rissie

gerrard   haman/momo  alonso kewell <--- had a blinder last N

         crouch    fowler

in games like chealsea you only have one or 2 chances so we need to take them, unlike last nite were we played them off the park and couldnt kill it off with the second
