Hamann, should he be out next season?

He has been good in his average performances
He was also one of the names carved on the UEFA cup etc.
He is only getting older now

Would you think he should be out next season (with bunch of thanks on his shoulder, of course)?

I think he will stay, Salif Diao is set to leave and Alou Diarra bought in as understudy to Hamann.

i don't like this conception of a holding role in the midfield for hamann. it has been one of our major problems in the last couple of seasons. with hamann sitting so deep that then means at times you have 40-50 yards between the midfield and the strikers. everyone classes vieira as a holding player but he is so much more than that. did you see the guy's goal on sunday? hardly the actions of a holding player. when was the last time you saw hamann burst into the box like that?

you want a holding player then give john welsh a chance. hamann is getting old now anyway. great servant to the club but we need a more attacking, creative player to play alongside stevie g. malbranque from fulham please.

When does Didis contract run out? Am sure it has no more than a year (possibly less) to run.

Hamman has been a favourite of mine these last few years and there have been so many occasions when the guy has been simply immense when all others were losing their heads.

Hamman fits Houlliers system like a glove and you could argue he is THE pivotal player in a sytem that requires him to break up attacks, give the ball early and maintain discipline at all times. For away games that is fine but, at Anfield, playing against teams with 9/10 players behind the ball Hamman has become a bit of a passenger. He doesn't have the energy, movement or forward-thinking that can help to break down well-organised defences + seems to be sitting deeper and deeper this season. Personally, i would like to see a more creative midfielder playing with Stevie coz the Captain has the energy to get up and down all day.

Could Hamman change his game? I doubt it, but i do believe he should score more goals (or be encouraged to try and score more) The guy strikes the ball so cleanly, the volley at home to Pompey was only betterd by the left-foot screamer he scored away at City at xmas + didn't he score 8/9 goals for Newcastle the season before we bought him?

i don't think hamann is the right player to bring us back to where we belong ( = the top  ). if you compare him with eg. vieira his neither as good in defending nor in serving balls to the strikers (not to speak about his own striking qualities ...). and even though i dont think hamann is our main problem, i'd sell him as long as we could get some money for him!

Kopite, id have to disagree about hmi being nowhere near viera.. if u look at the opta stats then u would see last year that Hamman did betetr than Vuiera. Viera is a better player tho, he can doa lot more, but as a player holding in front of the back 4 he is different class. He gives Gerard a lot space to do his thing and can benefit the team greatly. Diao also will not leave as he has  something to proove. Id like to Hamman stay and just push up more but if he does decide to go back to germany then i thank him for everything he has done. And that includes scoring the last goal at wembley... if it was gonna be a german player, just glad it was him :blues:

i respect him very much, am grateful for what he has done for the club and think he's a good guy but talking about football i just don't think he's the right player for us anymore.

Totally agree with u, swiss_kopite.. Hamann has been a loyal & consistent servant of the club & i dun think i have any negative comments about his performances for us...Certainly not in the mould of Viera or Lampard but he's never shy of roughing it out when the situation calss for it... Time to let him go & bring fresh legs into the midfield department... Van Bommel perhaps? :)

Viera is not a holding midfielder. Glberto is Arsenal's holding midfielder, and Viera is there box to box midfielder, sometimes I wonder if some people on this forum even watch football.

Well said Has, Vierra's comparitive player at LFC is Stevie Gerrard NOT Hamann. Didi's been a quality acquisition for LFC and still has a lot to offer. An indication of how important he is to us is felt when he is not playing cos when he doesn;t play we generally dont win.

An unsung hero and every team needs them. I wouldn't be against us going for a quality midfielder to incrase the competition for places but hamann should stay.

Hamann should only be sold if a better replacement is
bought. There is no point of selling Hamann if Welsh is
going to play instead. A class, attacking and creative
midfielder is what we need as someone there already
said. Wouldnt mind Ronaldinho :D

Hamann is the sort of player who does the dirty work
but is not noticed, quote from the premiership...i think.

Hamann is a great player  and as I said should only be
sold if a good player is found to replace him.

I agree with Dr. Liverpool.
Hamann might not be good enough
But there is currently nobody who is better than Hamann in  role he used to play.
So, keeping him may not be an ideal idea
But there's no point in selling him now

I really think Hamann still has a lot to offer...Right now the central mid is doing very ok...He complements SG alot....Its the right wing position thats not so strong and of course the approach taken by GH
