Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has claimed Tottenham are "desperate" to sell England striker Jermain Defoe.
The Spaniard was responding to the latest speculation linking Reds striker Djibril Cisse with a move to White Hart Lane, which was fuelled by the French forward's agent Ranko Stoijic.
To be fair to Spurs, they have flatly denied any interest in signing Cisse at the end of the season, although coach Martin Jol did concede that the ex-Auxerre ace's name may have cropped up in January when they were looking to bring in a striker.
"I have a clear idea," he told Sky Sports News. "They are desperate for selling Defoe and are trying to sell Defoe.
"They always use Cisse in the middle, I don't know why. But It's not our problem.
"We are thinking about our players. I don't need to talk with him [Cisse]. He is our player, he is working hard, they always talk about him when they talk about Defoe.
"Maybe, I say before, they are desperate to sell Defoe and want to do something.
"At this moment, I am happy with my strikers."
Defoe has been linked with a move to Anfield in some quarters but Spurs will be unhappy with the suggestion that they are looking to off-load the former West Ham attacker, who is desperate to be involved in this summer's World Cup finals with England.
but why here does benitez say 'they always play cisse in the middle'
looks to me like real bad journalism and not real quotes at all.
