so are you suggesting that if it was another manager they would not have given carra and gerrard a chance?

think about what you are saying, they are not good because of houllier, they are class players that woul have been given their chance under any manager

Also GH played carra out of position and dropped him alot.  Great ideas from the frenchman.

This topic is b@llocks but i can't stop typing because it is so annoying to think that there is someone out there talking complete and utter b@llocks about the club i love . mudface if you wree in the pub spouting this :censored: you would get filled in .which would be nice

Heskey

Even Stevie Wonder could have seen Gerrards potential and Jamie Carragher made his debut before Houllier arrived.

:;):

I wouldnt put Biscan and Le Tallec in any list of shame. They were not class players but they did put some decent performances in some games. In fact,Biscan is still a cult hero at Anfield.

As for Heskey,he did score some some valuable goals and his partnership with owen was important for us at that time.

As for his performance then compared to crouch now,i fink heskey did rather well.

He won 5 trophies (if you count the tradisional EPL curtain raiser as a trophy and if you really think that the UEFA Super Cup is really a more than a lightly regarded one off match organised by UEFA and forced onto the CL winner and the UEFA winner) in one calender year. This is an amazing feat, not even the great Bob Paisley, nor the modern successful managers like Ferguson or Wenger has managed a haul like this!

I salute him... Thanks, MudFace, for bringing this up.

cheers mate.

I still remember the triple...and Gary Macs goal in the final against alves...classic!

I must say though that am not slating Rafa, but pointing out that every manager makes mistakes when recruiting players(even Wenger does),and Rafa and Houllier are no exception.

I just hate it when GH is spoken of in bad terms

Carra started out as a left back and he was doing a good job in that position.
Then when henchoz got injured and biscan(out of position but played out of necessity) made some silly mistakes carra was called upon to partner hyppiah in central defence.
He did well but he too made some blunders, like the two own goals in the 2000 season against the mancs.
Carra has got better in that position since then and if GH was like most of you,he would have written him off when he made those mistakes....but GH is nice guy and carra is a made man:)

Sorry for taking you to a trip down memory lane.
You were probably supporting the mancs then(glory hunter!).

Gh won 5 trophies for us and people said its plactic treble or mickey mouse trophies. we defended our achievement and Gh but down inside we feel that people had the point when the called our treble or 5 cups as plastic cup. We want CL and epl.......and rafa gave Cl in his first season. Lucky? maybe but we were lucky now coz we don have to see players like diouf, dioa, Bruno 'new zidane' Cherouy...signed by rafa.

Houlliers trophy hall - Uefa cup (for teams not good enough to be in Champions league - kinda like Division 2 of Europe), Worrhington cup (neither Manu nor Arsenal took the competition serious in those days), 2 one off nothing games (charity shield & Super cup) and the luckiest FA cup win ever thanks to the one off ability of Michael Owen (who got disenchanted at LFC after years of playing in a poor team).

Didn't Roy Evans team always finish in top 4? did Houlliers?

Fowler's book is right is saying it was disgraceful the way GH rubbished Evans club and made himself out to be the saviour of Lfc. He cost us a tonne of cash and Houllers record breakers (was it 13 games without a win) were much worse than Evans at their worst.

Evans team was exciting while GH's made me wish I was blind.

The CL was won with 11 houllier players counting even the subs(smicer and cisse) and injured harry kewell.
The only rafa signings he would have risked to play in a game of that magnitude were Garcia and Alonso.

So thank GH for the CL win too...who knows maybe it was fate that Rafa wins it coz with the team he left behind, any serious coach could have won it.

And has the sheep theory been discussed here?

I'd gladly swap all 5 trophys, for that CL we won last May........ What an amazing night..... I thought Alaves game was special, boy, was I wrong.......

Now don't get me wrong, the FA, UEFA and Mickey Mouse cups are worth their weight in gold, and in those matches, we played outstanding football, but, geez louise, all 5 don't have anything on that European Champions League Trophy and what it meant. Ole Big Ears is here to stay, and that means more than all 5 trophys under French rule!

I think that its funny, you thread is turning to :censored: and now all that you are doing is attempting to wind people up by saying stupid things like "Crouch is :censored:"

I think that I am one of the more tolerant members when it comes to new-comers making stupid posts but you are really starting to annoy me.
F@ck off and dont come back, we will all be happier without you  :veryangry

Spoofer Houllier has tried to claim credit for "his" team winning the CL, i.e Rafa does well - GH should get credit

BUT

When Rafa was doing poorly in league GH said "look he's doing no better than I did" i.e. he expects credit when Rafa is struggling.

He spins the truth around so much many on this forum now believe him, he saved this great club? he rebuilt it?

He also boasted that none of the players that left LFC went onto better things - that is because they were rubbish purchasers and should never have been here in the first place, it is a sign of failure not success

Oh yeah, give back that £5m you took before you left!
