Gascoine

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby 112-1077774096 » Wed Apr 28, 2004 6:33 am

I was watching the weekly football programme last night, its shown throughout asia, the pundits last night were Paul Masefield, he's a regular, Lee sharpe was visiting and Paul Walsh was back in the studio in UK.

They put on a report about Paul Gasgcoine visiting a new adiction center in Liverpool and then they interviewd him, the point I am trying to make is that he was unrecognisable, he was so skinny and withdrawn and it was a shock to see him like that.

Both sharpe and walsh made statement relatating to his addictions, even down to drinking 20 red bulls a day and anti depressants. Gasgcoine put this down to always being in demand, he was never left alone.

Anyway, I dont know if this interview is shown back home in Uk but if it is you should watch it.

Leon, give the guy a break.  Some people as well as being Liverpool fans are football fans as well you know.  I've followed Gazza's career all the way through all he's been through, he was a great footballer (not just good, great), but like so many great talents he is flawed (Maradonna?).

I haven't seen the footage of him at an addiction centre, but would have found it very interesing.  I wish Gazza had come to Liverpool when he left Newcastle (in '89?).  Can you imagine him with Barnes, Beardsley and Aldo etc?  We would have been even better than we were already.

I dont like Gazza, cus he wasted his talent. If I had been blessed with that sort of vision and skill, I would have put everything into playing football. The man could have been bigger than Becks, but he decided to put his energy into getting p#ssed and kicking the s##t out of his missus.

The word great should not be used in the same sentence as wife beater.

No excuses.

you've got to look at him as a footballer only and don't bring his personal life in to in.  Leon, tell me, do you think Diego Maradonna was a great player?

Leonn, lets not confuse his football with his private life, yes he hit his wife and that puts him down in my estimation as a man, but are you saying he wasnt a great footballer? im sure u will say maradonna is s##t because he also had an addiction.  maybe you should think before you speak. if he was a red would you still react this way?

I would rather see Gasgcoine as a world class footballer who would happily stop his car to join a bunch of kids having a kickaround.

Maybe we should only talk about liverpool players on here just so leonn doesnt get p#ssed off. i assume from your response that maybe you are quite young, dont worry as you get older you will get more sense.

I dont think I know, but Gazza was not a patch on Deigo. There is no comparison whatsoever. I personally  would not have wasted my time drinking and kicking the f##k out of my missus if I'd had the gift Gazza did.

In all honesty do you think an average spell at Lazio makes him any great shakes. I dont.

I cant think only about his football, I find it hard to respect a man who abuses a woman. END OF

leonn you have a fair point about his wife, a woman who now has wealth beyond all her wildest dreams, but these are things that adiction does to people. im saying it was sad to see him the way he is because of his football, and because like all of us he is flawed. it doesnt matter how much money he had, he is a human being with the same frailties. i cant forgive him for hitting his wife, we can say he has no excuse, but what do we know, we were not there, of course we can all read papers.

i wonder what your view is on collymore

He is another waster, and It makes me laugh that this string has descended to Stan.

You question wether he had a reason to strike a woman, I know of NO reason a man should lay a finger on a woman.

Leon, i respect the fact that you feel so strongly about him beating up women.  I agree with you about that, but as a footballer he was great.  Did you ever see him 'live' when he was at his peak?

For about 2 or 3 years before his injury he was the best footballer in the world, even better than Maradonna (who had gone a bit by 1990 in my opinion).  I think the great players generally only get a fews years where their powers are so good that they are the best player in the world.  Even the great Zidane isn't quite as good these days.  Without the injuries and the obvious mental problems Gazza woulds have had 5 or 6 years at the top, as it was he got 2 or 3 (mostly at tottenham).  Did anyone see a goal he scored for Lazio once where he took on an entire Italian team (someone like Perugia?) and scored?  It was one of the best goals i've ever seen.  That gives me an idea for a topic...

As a Nottingham Forest follower as well as an Liverpool fan, I can't stand Stan Collymore.

I was in a club in Wolverhampton a few years back when Stan comes in with all his hangers on, stands in the middle of the place like he owns it, takes out a cigar and a £50 note, sets fire to the note and lights his cigar with it. Want a complete WAN*ER

a man should not strike a woman and vice versa, i use collymore to try to emphasise a point. leonn i was a policeman in liverpool for 5 years and also have a law degree, so i know the legal and social issues better than most, i have seen men reduced to tears because of abuse from their spouse because rightly they would not strike their wife even after being punched, kicked and in one incident stabbed by her.

Not all men can be the same leonn, im not excusing him for hitting his wife, but im remembering him as a footballer, please try to do the same. we know your feeling on hitting women and im sure we all agree with that, but remember this is a guy who has had no private life, show some compassion.

please understand that im not arguing with u on the wife thing
