understatement of the world!

The only people that would want this job now- is those who need a job!! If you were a successful mgr that was currently employed- would you take over england and have your life turned upside down! Would you :censored:!!

Step forward another Mr Average to build our expectations with a team that are good enough to qualify by themselves, but when it comes down to really making a decision when it matters- Mr Average won't have the nouce!

After the way the English media has treated Sven I can't see too many of the top foreign coaches wanting the job.  You'll be stuck with an English manager I think.  Trouble is none of the top managers in England are English.

I can't stand Allardyce but he may be the best you can attract under the circumstances.  I certainly rate him above the likes of Pearce, Curbishley, McLaren and any other of these guys being talked about.

If so many people in England say they hate News of the World for its attempts (over many decades) to destroy Englands chances of winning something, then why do so many of you read it? it is the most read paper in your country.

When I go to England I see people sitting down reading this rag and having a beer. If you demanded more class from the papers you read and bought others, then this :censored: wouldn't happen.

Obviously the LFC site is an exception as no real LFC fan would ever buy it (or the sun). Anyone who does is scum.

I agree John.

There isn't one English manager who currently fits the bill for the England job. Steve McClaren has surely put paid to his own chances with Middlesbrough's form this season - not one Premiership win since November. Stuart Pearce is too inexperienced, and hasn't actually taken Manchester City any further up the league table than Kevin Keegan.

And then there's Sam Allardyce. We have short memories in this country. It's not that long since Graham Taylor brought Aston Villa up from the old second division, and took them to a second-placed finish in the league - something Allardyce will never manage with Bolton - and look how well he did in the hotseat  ???

The best result in English club football this century - our European Cup success - was achieved by a quietly spoken manager, not a passionate rabble-rouser. The only qualification for the job most of the English candidates has is a passport and that is not enough.

i have been a fan of Gus for awhile. I was delighted when I heard that he was appointed for the Aus position. I don't our (aus) qualification was due to him, however. It was already written as far i was conserned. Gus certainly didn't hurt matters.

Unfortunatly the Aus job has a short life-span for an international coach, unless of course we win the world cup, about as likely as LFC getting more points than chelsea this season, very slim, but we can dream. So after this world cup, I would love to see what he could do for england.

Hiddink is possibly the best manager in the world and would be a great choice.

I don't think there are any great English managers out there.

Its a poisoned chalice. The southern media will make it impossible for any manager to be successful in that job.

Sven did a middling job but really, with the players at his disposal, he should have done a whole lot better. England have a lot of genuine class all over the pitch these days, and even though a couple of players are over rated (Beckham and Ferdinand) they have some excellent guys like Gerrard, Lampard, the two Coles, Carragher, Terry, King, Owen and most importantly of all, Rooney, who is a player that could win a major trophy for England under the right circumstances.

If the FA decides to sign Guus Hidding  as the new England manager then I firmly believe England will be much more stronger than they have in the last 10 years. He's gotten South Korea (hardly a football nation) to the semi-finals in the last World Cup. Prior to that he led Holland to the semi-finals and this year he managed to lead Australia to World Cup qualification.

He's done well with PSV, and he's a good manager. A damn better one than Fat Sam, Alan Curbishley, Jewell,etc...
