"One of the things footballers tend to lose sight of is the excitement of being a fan, the shouting, the screaming and the singing. Because you get sucked into watching the technical side of the game. The UEFA Cup final was the first time it had come back to me, the first time I actually felt like a fan again. The tension was so great, so enormous. I got out of my seat and went under the stands; I've never done that in my life. I even missed Robbie's goal. But I felt, for the first time, the intensity of being a Liverpool fan."
But who said it?
"We underachieved - all of us. It's always the manager who gets the blame and then the sack but sometimes the players who are out there have to take it on the chin. Roy tried to do it the right way, tried to play football and it was nothing to do with the wrong formation; the system didn't lead to our downfall, we did."
But who said it?
"People have said that the League Cup wasn't important, that it wasn't a great competition. Well, it was great for Liverpool because we won it in '81, '82, '83 and '84. That's how great it was for Liverpool. We wanted to win every game, no matter who it was or what it was. We didn't even want to win it to book a place in Europe because we always won the league or the European Cup anyway. We just wanted to win."
But who said it?
it's a bit of fun but it sums up what liverpool football club means to all of us.
