Cisse

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I fully agree with stmichael - Cisse is a player with loads of pace but NO FOOTBALL BRAIN! His biggest problem is his arrogant attitude - being the best striker in the French League does not mean anything in the English Premiership until u score on a regular basis! This is what defines the quality of a striker. Yes, he moaned on and on about not starting enough games but so what if he's in the starting 11? It won't make any difference at all on his goal tally BUT it affects the team adversely as he's a big liability with his amateurish touches and poor passes, often wasting possession and cutting short a good move. Not to even mention his pathetic finishing - always looking for the spectacular finish when a simple tap in or chip over will do. The result? His "spectacular" finish always ended up either with the fans behind the goal or tamely in the hands of the opposing goalie. Enough is enough!!!

I realli hope he comes into this forum and read my post cos I want him to know how lousy and amateurish a striker (a striker? oh please!!!) he realli is. It's time for him to pack up and leave Anfied asap!!! Time to stand up and make yourself count, Pongo!!!

sweet lyrics which should be self explanatory:

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark

At the end of the storm
Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark

Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown

Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone

He's not being made a scapegoat, he's just not good enough. I'm not basing that on Sunday alone, but on the season in general. I can't get over the fact that Cisse's first touch is so woeful, I've seen 7 year olds with a better technique for getting a football under control.

Also, if a player can't raise their game for an occasion of that magnitude then they may as well hand their jersey back. His performance on Sunday was a disgrace to all the great players who have worn the shirt down the years.

When we were interested in signing Cisse, Wenger never showed even a smidgeon of interest in Cisse, this made me wonder as all I knew about Cisse was how fast he was and that he scored goals in France. Even to this day, it astounds me that the likes of Barcelona were interested in him before he came to us.

Now I know exactly why Wenger didn't show any interest:

None but the slow or the slow-witted would attempt to deny that scorching pace is an invaluable weapon in football. But it was no surprise to find Arsène Wenger emphasising that speed on the field is effective strictly in proportion to the intelligence applying it. We have all seen players who go nowhere in a blur of velocity. The Arsenal manager was talking about his new recruit, the £12m 16-year-old Theo Walcott, who is credited with covering 100m in 11.5 seconds. “Pace is an asset only when you also understand when to go and where to go,” said Wenger, adding with satisfaction that young Walcott seemed well attuned to those requirements.

The healthy simplicity of the Frenchman’s observations is typically reassuring. We can be confident that English football’s latest prodigy will be made to realise the game must be learnt before it can be conquered.  :(

To say Wenger didn't show a smidgeon of interest in Cisse back then is simply not true St Mike.  I remember several articles from the summer before Cisse signed for us stating that Arsenal were also interested.

It was considered somewhat of a coup in European football that Houllier had managed to agree the deal to bring Cisse here.  He was very highly thought of.

In fact, Valencia were another club who had been reported to be scouting Cisse at the time, with none other than Benitez at the helm.

The fact that we paid 14 million for the guy, at least twice what he was worth, suggests to me that there were other clubs in the hunt and this was a tactic to scare off other potential bidders.  I suspect Arsenal were one of those teams, considering some of the reports at the time.

hopefully he'll play in world cup, score a few goals and we can get £7-8m for him.

Thanks GH, a few more quid thrown away.

I still haven't heard from those guys on this site who raved about him before he came and promised great things. Come on, own up!!!

i am starting to lose faith in cisse :( , and at times he meanders around the pitch without enthusiasm, and his positioning in relation to other players and his choice of passing, leaves me wondering, is this a man on the move??

time will tell i suppose

it is quite cynical to see u agree with the elite members on the cisse issue while u lashed against the newer members on the other thread regarding the same topic.
