Salif diao - He reckons he's staying

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby stmichael » Mon Apr 26, 2004 2:22 pm

this is quoted of the official liverpool website. it is a letter written by salif diao to liverpool fans.

Dear Liverpool supporters,

Further to growing speculation in the national media that I will be leaving LFC this summer, I would like to reiterate that I am fully committed to the club.
I still have three years left on my current contract, I am very happy to play for the team and I want to repay the faith Gerard Houllier showed in bringing me to England.

Liverpool is the team that not only do I play for, but one I have also grown to support, and I have no intention of letting this wonderful opportunity pass me by. I know I am part of a great institution and feel that I still have plenty of time to make a big impression on the team and the fans.

Unfortunately, injuries have dictated that my opportunities have been limited and the supporters haven't seen my true worth yet. I can understand that some fans might be frustrated because they are yet to see the Salif Diao that played at the World Cup for Senegal, but I can assure them all that I now feel fitter and stronger than ever and hope to take my performances to another level, given the opportunity.

Under the leadership of Mr Houllier, I believe I have the ideal coach to get the best out of me. His coaching knowledge and ability is widely respected, particularly among the European and African players, and I'm confident that he can help me become a better player over the course of the coming months and years.

More immediately, my aim is to break into the team and help the club gain a place back where it belongs: in the Champions League. If we can achieve that this season, then things will look so much better for the season ahead. We have the players here, in my opinion, to be winning trophies every season, and I aim to be a part of that success.

nooooooooooooooooooooo

I reckon GH wrote that letter and got Diao to sign it, knowing he probably can't read.

If only he could recapture that form, he looked a real prospect

yeah but having one or two good games at the world cup, where the pace is so much slower than the premiership is no reason to splash 5m on him. i hardly think clubs were queuing up for him do you? diouf had one good game against france because he skinned FRANK LEBOEUF and MARCEL DESAILLY for the goal. he didn't actually score a goal if i recall.

He was solid throughout the tournament. His job was not a striker. But he made some fearsome tackles and great thru balls to Diouff. Ran and ran all day.........Like i said "he looked a great prospect " not neccesarily the finished article but the ingredients for a solid midfielder were there. I still think he has what it takes but like so many that have joined us under GH that "promise" seems to have drained away . :(

I go with the "hail mary" approach, give them one more year and pray like f##k that they find some form. Cheyrou too.

Does anybody know if Rodando is over his injuries, I think he was a fantastic player and not just because he skinned Keane for the goal that knocked them out of CL but I've seen him for Argentina many times, a few years ago though.
