ok well that's why we MUST buy a right winger in the summer. if you want to unlock defences the best way is to play with width. we brought kewell to provide width on the left but he drifts all over the pitch. for me it has to be van der meyde.

4-5m. i think his contracts nearly up.  he has pace and is technically superb. he scored a blinding volley at highbury in the champions league earlier this season.

Ok so with our £30 mill (hypothetically) we could afford to buy Lampard , Hasselbank and Van der Meyde . I'm smiling already. Just need to get some pace in the center of defence and we are challenging for the title. :D :D :D

Lampard 15mil
Van Der Meyde 5mil
Mexes 5mil

if we got the signings above we wouldnt need a striker but......
Hasseilbank 5mil (not a big fan of his)

Getting lampard, van der meyde, mexes or haseilbank is too good to be true also Champions league is vital if we are to persuade them to come.

I don't think Chelsea is stupid enough to let Lampard go. He has been their most influential player this season. Think they will sort out their contract problem but what a midfield we will have it he did come. I don't think we have yet being officially linked with van der Meyde? Haven't seen him played so no opinion. Hasseilbank? Think not if Cisse arrived. Any chance of landing Overmars? He could solve our problem at least for the next season or two.

While I don't agree with the signing of players like Biscan for £4-5m nor do I agree with splashing big cash on players either. We need to identify good players and find out what would be wanted for them, not say we want Cisse and get ripped off. Clubs see Houllier coming, he's not like Fergie in the transfer market. Saha was quite a swoop, I'd rather him for £12m with a Premiership scoring record than Cisse for £2m more and so much risk attached.

If we're going to spend big it has to be on top quality, the problem is Houllier and we need to get rid of him before £30m is wasted

Some people here seem to forget what a great draw Liverpool still is to many top young players. This will not remain with houllier in charge but look at Barcelona as an example.
They have not won a trophy for more than 5 years yet they attracted such talents as Saviola,Ronaldinho,Davids,Quaresma,Gerard and Marquez.
Those players would get a game for most teams in the world and we should not lower our sights as they have proved a clubs history can still attract the top players.
Cisse is a player I have seen many times in the last few years and has alot of potential but 14m is a joke when you consider Ronaldinho didnt cost much more.
It is also obvious up front is not where the problems are but houllier as usual has no idea what is needed to improve the team.
Van Der Vaart and Van Der Meyde would be great additions to our midfield and I think would not be impossible to sign.

Houllier doesn't have a clue how to improve the team?

Thats why he's going after a pacey centre half who can play on the ball, thats why he knows we need a striker to partner Michael Owen and thats why he was looking at signing Malbranque last summer.

Now where would you improve then kid? Because in mine and probably nearly every other person who has a clue about the game agrees with him that these are the areas most in need of improvement.

I'd say Houllier, like everyone else, knows what the team needs but is unsure of where to get it.  He obviously doesn't want to pay the Chelsea price but he also wants to sign the best possible.

I think we should sign Milner and if stories that Figo will leave Real Madrid this summer to go to the premiership are true then we should make a bid for him too.

As for Hasselbaink, the guy's movement is non-existent and we should completely forget about him.

Regarding Cissé, he looks decent although would someone like Drogba not be cheaper?
