AUXERRE CLOSE ON FLORENT

Former Auxerre coach Guy Roux has revealed that Liverpool striker Florent Sinama-Pongolle is set for talks with the club.

The Ligue 1 club are on the look out for new striking additions after Mwaruwari Benjani completed a £4.1 million move to Portsmouth.

Current coach Jacques Santini is believed to have been keeping a watchful eye on the former Le Havre youngster for some time and may now be set to gazump Nice who have also been in discussions with Liverpool.

Sinama-Pongolle has been seeking a way out for Anfield for some time having become increasingly disillusioned by his lack of first team opportunities under Rafa Benitez and could be set to seal a loan deal for the rest of the season.

Evra @ £5m + is an expensive squad player to cover for Risse. Also Warnock is more than capable. Give the lad a chance. He was excellent early in the season when he was playing regular and won an England call up. Worts case scenario (i.e. if we have a massive injury crisis at LB) then, with us signing another CH, Carra could always slot in with Agger or another new signing taking his place at CH!

Interesting story there ciggs, I think it'd possibly be a good thing for Pongo but would it leave us short up front? I say yes and we'd deffo have to strengthen.

By the way whats the source of the story??

Interesting how it says that Guy Roux ''said'' that Pongolle is comming but there are no quotes from him what so ever in that article.

I've got this from a very reliable source. He's a good mate of mine and he works for a Dutch footy magazine. He normally doesn't get any inside information about Liverpool, or foreign teams for that matter, but he did now because it involves a Dutch player.

I've mentioned that I had some information in the Dudek thread and also said that there was more about that transfer. So here's the deal.

We will get Dirk Kuyt for £6mil and Feyenoord will also get Dudek on a permanent deal, aswell as Pongolle on a loan deal untill the summer.

It's no secret Dudek wants first team football and would love to return to Feyenoord, so when they came in for him he jumped at the chance. It's also no secret that Rafa is looking to bolster his attacking secrets, but also working on a tight budget. So when Feyenoord proposed this deal, he was eager to wrap it up. Feyenoord also requested to take Pongolle on loan. They knew he wanted first team football and they wanted a replacement for Kuyt, so they don't have to worry about buying a striker untill the summer.

Both clubs are also discussing a possible link up. This means that Feyenoord would get to take some of our promising youngsters on loan and we'd get first option on their players.

My mate has burned his fingers a few times before and that's why he wanted me to keep it quiet for a while. He told me last night, but told me to remain tight lipped untill he allowed me to tell you guys. According to him the deal will be made public some time Monday afternoon.

If I hear anymore I'll let you know

hmm...if that is true, you've got a very valuable friend the AB  :nod

would be well happy with that

not an amazingly reliable source :(

5 signings at LFC in January. Kromkamp and Agger deals to be sealed this week, followed by Simao Sabrosa from Benfica and the capture of Mark Gonzales (finally!). Last signing will be a GK to provide cover for Reina and Carson (MK Dons one has been scouted). Out will be Dudek, Josemi, Mellor, Potter and Raven. Liverpool are also looking at the possibility of a loan deal for Henrik Larsson until the end of the season but this is looking unlikely as he is looking for a 2 year deal.

Gonzalez won't be able to get his work permit until the summer and it's a possibility that he will be loaned out to Espanol until the summer when we will be able to sign him, finaly.

His transfer has really done my head in TBH, its taken nearly a year to sign him, all the messing around with FIFA rankings, then he was injured.
Now he cant play for us till next season, and he will go on loan for the rest of the season as our player, hope he will be worth it in the end like, cause Rafa hasnt given up on him like.
Its just Ive never seen such a long transfer for a relativley unknown player.

Anton Ferdinand's decision to stay with West Ham thwarted a Liverpool bid to sign him, according to reports.

The 20-year-old has signed a bumper new £22,000-per-week deal, his second pay hike in just three months.

And according to the Daily Mirror that latest contract offer came as a result of an enquiry from Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez.

Last summer Hammers legal director Scott Duxbury was forced to officially deny that Ferdinand was on his way to Anfield in a £3million deal.

And Benitez, who is also closing in on Danish international defender Daniel Agger, reportedly saw the talented centre-half as somebody who could anchor his backline for years to come.

Not surprisingly Hammers boss Alan Pardew is delighted Ferdinand, younger brother of Manchester United and England star Rio, has committed his future to the Upton Park club.

He said: "I'm overjoyed that we have signed another of our top young players on a long-term contract and Anton fully deserves the new deal.

"He has made fantastic progress since I came to the club and I want him to be a big player for this club in the years to come."

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is looking to his former club Valencia for new faces with Brazilian defender Fabio Aurelio his target.

The South American's current contract at The Mestalla expires at the end of June and he is now able to discuss a move away from the club.

Valencia chiefs will hold last-ditch talks with Aurelio next week aimed at tying him to a new deal, but they have so far refused to meet his wage demands.

Reds boss Benitez is keen to build on his squad during the transfer window, and the 26-year-old could be the next on his list.

The Brazilian, who operates at left back or in midfield, is also being looked at by Real Madrid and Barcelona but he has fond memories of Benitez from his days in charge at Valencia.

Benitez has already bolstered his defence by signing Jan Kromkamp, and Danish centre half Daniel Agger is also expected to arrive at Anfield.

Benitez still wants more options down the left, especially with Chilean winger Mark Gonzalez's work permit problems, and Aurelio would prove tough competition for John Arne Riise and Harry Kewell.

Any move for Aurelio could prove to be the end for Djimi Traore, however, with the Frenchman probably being surplus to requirements with Stephen Warnock also able to play at left back.
