Well we do have Raven and Barragan (who I think will break into the first team soon). If we sign Dario Srna, then it wouldn't be a problem. He's a right winger, but can also play well as a right back. He's played in both positions for both Croatia and Shaktar Donetsk.

Spotted this on ESPN - does it mean that the Simao Sabrossa deal could be back on? ???

Benfica sign Brazilian winger Manduca

LISBON, Dec 28 (Reuters) - Brazilian winger Gustavo Manduca has joined Benfica from Maritimo on a four-and-a-half-year contract, the Portuguese champions said on Wednesday.

No financial details of the deal were given but Portuguese media reported that Benfica would pay around half a million euros to the Madeira Island club.

The 25-year-old Manduca, who joins a large Brazilian contingent at Benfica, strengthens coach Ronald Koeman's squad before the Champions League knockout round tie against Liverpool.

Benfica are third in the 18-team Portuguese standings, six points behind leaders Porto.

Hmm possibly, which flank does this guy play on?

Good point... I should have done a bit more research first!  According to the profile below (from his current club Maritimo's website) he's a left winger so maybe a direct Simao replacement after all.

Image

Name: Gustavo Manduca
Date of Birth: 8 June 1980
Place of Birth: Urussanga, Brazil
Nationality: Brazilian

Height: 1.82 metres
Weight: 78 Kg
Position: Forward/Left Wing
Squad Number: 22
Previous Clubs: Grémio, HJK Helsinki, Felgueiras, Esposende

The young left winger/forward had a steady 2003/04 season Paços Ferreira but was unable to prevent his club from dropping out of the Superliga. He will hope for better fortunes at Marítimo, although he may find he has his work cut out trying to establish himself in the starting line up.

Although still young, the player has alot of experience including Champions League football (with HJK Helsinki) and in the Portuguese leagues, however his one season with Paços Ferreira was his first in the Superliga, scoring 3 goals. His strong left foot, pace and technical abilities may prove useful in the Marítimo team.

Simao plays on the right flank and thats where we are lacking at the moment. This guy is probably not a direct replacement for Simao.

Errrm... Benfica's site lists Simao as a "left midfielder"

Simão Image

Name:Simão Pedro Fonseca Sabrosa
Position:Left Midfielder
Date of Birth: 30-10-1979
Height (Mts):1.70
Weight (Kg):64
Nacionality: Portuguese

Apology accepted...

I have just heard from my uncle that liverpool have been offered 8m for cisse by spurs. By all acco :censored:s the club are mulling it over no decision has been made and if they can get king and part ex cisse with 5m they are willing to do buisness.

Both clubs are in disscussions about a possible deal, King is relishing joining the european champions and wants a deal to come off. His fiancee who is from up near liverpool supposed to have twisted his arm and begged him to sign for the kop.

There is going to be some kind of decision being broadcast next week. Either way it sounds like cisse is on his way, him throwing his shirt into the crowd last night also suggests he could have played his last game for the club.

Listen mate i'm only passing on whats been said, Kompany was a no1 target last week, don';t know whats happened there. Its probably got something to do with spurs offering 8m for cisse, Liverpool want King! They know the only way they will get him,  is if spurs take cisse as part of a deal. Kompany is vallued at 10m, King is 15m.
