Doesn't matter if this Vidic lad is good or not, they've still gotta replace Van Der Saar, Scholes, Giggs and Gary Neville in the next season or two cos their gonna need hip replacements soon :D

Liverpool are on the up and Man U are on a downward spiral

Deal confirmed

Sir Alex Ferguson has expressed his delight after Manchester United agreed a deal with Spartak Moscow for Nemanja Vidic.

The Serbia & Montenegro international has emerged as a top transfer target for the
Red Devils in recent weeks as Ferguson looks to add to his squad in the New Year.

Vidic was also being tracked by Italian outfit Fiorentina, while United's Premiership rivals Liverpool were also keen on the centre half.

But the 24-year-old now appears primed to move to Old Trafford after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.

It is believed United will pay the Russian club around £7 million for Vidic, who will now undergo a medical and discuss personal terms.

He has previously intimated that The Red Devils are his first choice for a move and the club are confident the deal will be wrapped up on January 1 when the transfer window reopens.

Though Ferguson already has Rio Ferdinand, Wes Brown and Mikael Silvestre jostling for a centre half position, along with the emerging talent of Gerard Pique, he is happy to add Vidic to his squad.

"I am delighted the two clubs have come to an agreement," Ferguson told the club's official website.

"Nemanja is a quick, aggressive centre half and at 24 will be a terrific addition to the squad."

Personally I don't care about Man U, lets worry about us and not about Uniteds transfers, we'll be ok, leave it up to Rafa.

SS

Deportivo La Coruna have slapped a €6 (£4.1) million price tag on defender Fabrizio Coloccini.

There has been widespread interest in the Argentinean from European and South American clubs, with the player keen for more regular football ahead of the World Cup.

Premiership high-fliers Liverpool remain in the running for Colloccini, with a possible swap deal involving Reds winger Harry Kewell being mooted.

But Deportivo have insisted they want to keep hold of the centre back in the January transfer window

Solid defender but not the quickest...

Pellegrino was one of La Liga's best defenders, and as far as I know he makes Hyypia look like fecking Ferrari. If he can play well in La Liga even with a huge lack of pace, then there's no reason why Coloccini's lack of pace should be the reason he's on the bench.

The lack of quality and pacy center halves is probably due to the demand and how every team would like to keep their most valuable asset (the good teams normally have the quality center half and they are far from desperate to cash in). We should really tap into the lower league's market and go for the defenders that could make the grade in the Prem. The lower league teams should maximum slap a 5 million fee on their most prized asset, not too much of a problem.

Scouring oversea lower league is an increasing problem so we should start in England first, although I believe our scouting department is already doing just that.

I agree, theirs a lad who plays for the 'George and Dragon' near us who could do a job  :p

Seriously though, if we looked in the lower divisions who probably could find some good defenders but only young ones that would take a few years of priming to get to a decent level, theirs a difference between someone coming from the lower leagues and doing well and someone being able to play at Champ League level.
