We've been linked with him since Benitez first came to Liverpool, as he is one of his keenest admirers. He has a minimum release clause in his contract of £40,000,000 but he is unlikly to resign with the Seville club ehen his contract runs down, so they are now asking for something around £15,000,000, though it could be less depending on other circumstances. He is an expert crosser of te ball who is fast and his shots powerful. He is a regular in the spain squad and is on a par with the likes of Robben, Duff, Beckham and the rest of the best. If we got him, I'd be smiling for a year.
:)

No offence, but how do you know that Benitez rates Joaquin or that he's his admirer?

I thought it was just common knowledge. I seem to remember some Betis stories on Skysports.com ages ago stating it. Besides, who isn't a keen admirer of Joaquin?

I've heard that Benitez doesn't rate Joaquin. That Spanish fella on SSN says that he prefers a winger like Vicente over Joaquin.

I just saw on Fox Sprts and I don't know how true this is but the Real Madrid coach will likely get the sack this coming week. Probable replacements are: Fabio Capello (Juventus), Jose Mourinho (Chelsea) and Rafa. Until then the Reserve coach will step in. Now Chelsea has more than enough money to keep Maureen. Fabio is leading the Serie A as current champion as well so Juve won't allow Real to talk to them. Also Real Madrid is Rafa favourite team. Do you think the Real could get Rafa? Will LFC let him speak to Real?

Heard it too Aussie:

Real line up sensational Benitez move
Sun, Dec 04 2005 13:45
Real Madrid are lining up a sensational swoop for Reds boss Rafael Benitez as Wanderley Luxemburgo's reign is set to come to an end.
The Bernabeu coach has been under immense pressure as Madrid have found themselves off the pace in the race for the title. Fierce rivals and defending champions Barcelona are currently leading the way in La Liga and Real are ready to act.

It is believed the board at Real have made their decision to axe Luxemburgo and have targeted Benitez as the ideal man to takeover the reigns and bring the glory days back to the club.

Real officials have been impressed with the way Benitez won the European Cup with Liverpool last season and are keen to get him back managing in La Liga.

Benitez has a good record in Spain and after leading former club Valencia to a league and Uefa Cup double in 2003/04 season, Real have made him their top target.

It remains to be seen whether Benitez would walk away from Liverpool if Real did come knocking and Reds officials are sure to do all they can to keep him at Anfield.

Benitez is known to have a good relationship with the Reds board and following a fine run in the Premiership which has seen Liverpool win their last seven games without conceding a goal, things could not be better. Benitez is also on a bumper contract but Madrid would prove to be a massive pull for him.

Benitez, who is from Madrid and is a life-long fan, would be tempted by the move and it is well known that Real are probably the only club he would consider leaving Liverpool for.

The gaffer has privately expressed a desire to one day manage Real and an approach would leave him with a massive dilemma.

I should take anything EatSleepSport say with a pinch of salt.  Without even looking at that link, this is an old story that Real Madrid are interested in Rafa.

During the negotiations with Madrid for bringing Fernando Morientes to Anfield, Perez was demanding first refusal on any future transfer of Steven Gerrard to another club.  Benitez refused and Perez said: "Rafa, you do know that you will be Real Madrid coach one day don't you?"  Of course they want him, who wouldn't?  And as long as Real Madrid keep sacking managers, Rafa will be linked with them.  We will learn to get used to it.

What people forget though, and especially dodgy websites like this forget, is that last season when Madrid went public and leaked a story saying Benitez was interested in joining them, he stayed quiet and didn't give any inteviews, emerging two days later to put the story to bed emphatically saying he'd like to see out his contract and then stay another twenty years if the club would have him.

Why would he have changed his mind since then?  I wouldn't even expect a comment from Benitez on this story this week truth be told.

If you want more on this, buy Guillem Ballague's book.  It has a detailed section on what I have just posted above.

Luxemburgo has been sacked - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/europe/4497208.stm. Rafa won't go. Who would want to go and work for a guy who's sacked 5 coaches in under 3 years?

I go to a site called news now.co.uk  every day just to check out  any news reports on Liverpool  and came across this wee gem

Both Everton and Liverpool are reportedly lining up January bids for Brondby defender Daniel Agger as both David Moyes and Rafael Benitez look to bolster their defensive ranks.

Aston Villa, Arsenal and Manchester United are also said to be keen on bringing the highly rated 20-year-old Danish international to the Premiership.

Agger would cost in the region of £3.5million and it is believed that Liverpool will prove to be Everton's biggest rivals for his signature.

Yes we are Evertons biggest rival   :D  :D

Stupid question really, never in a million years would we let him talk to Real Madrid. Secondly, his job isn't finished and he would never leave without finishing his job. He didn't do it with Valencia, he won't do it with us.
