Its going to be in the Manchester Evening news tonight, the mancs are fuming  :D
I doubt its true though.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

I personally wouldn't take Keane and I don't think Rafa would either.  He's been inspirational and enigmatic for ManUre...exactly the sort of player that Rafa avoids.  He usually goes for hungry young talent.

BTW I can't believe that Roma can afford his wages.

I think Keane was once a great player and now a good player who would do a good job for Liverpool. However, I feel that he would upset the balance of the team.

Reds going after Toon starlet
28 November 2005

It is rumoured that Liverpool are going after coveted Newcastle starlet Santiago Munez. Just brought from Mexico by Newcastle scouts in June 2004 as a 16-year-old, he has played a couple of reserve games and has excelled a lot since then. He is a very versatile player and can play as a striker, an attacking midfielder, as well as a right-sided midfielder.

Munez caught the eye of Liverpool head scout Paco Herrera while recently playing for Newcastle in a reserve game against Queens Park Rangers, in which he scored a 35 yard cracker. In 6 reserve appearances, he has already scored 7 goals, while figures suggest that he has also contributed numourous assists. Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham scouts are also rumoured to be monitoring his progress.

It is however difficult for him to force himself into the first team picture with experienced strikers Michael Owen, veteran Alan Shearer, Albert Luque, Shola Amoebi, and Michael Chopra, all in contention. Munez has helped himself with yet another first class performance for the reserve team and could very well make the first-team bench against Aston Villa come Saturday if manager Graeme Souness chooses to reward the 16 year old youngster for his recent strong displays.

He could come for a fee as low as 1 million when the January transfer window opens. However, it is hard to believe that Newcastle would want to release their most sellable asset for such a cut price, regardless of the abundance of quality strikers at their service.

According to my insider sources, he'll be going to Real Madrid though. He has impressed me everytime I see him play. I would very much want him and would be a valuable addition to our squad if we manage to fight off competition from four corners.

Liverpool are closing in on a deal for Benfica winger Simao Sabrosa.

Rafa Benitez has been a long-term admirer of Simao who has been a consistent performer in the UEFA Champions League this season.

Midfielder Bolo Zenden's lay-off now appears to have forced the Spaniard's hand, although Benitez is believed to be willing to pay no more than £8 million for the Portuguese international.

Nevertheless Benfica club president, Luis Filipe Vieira, claims a deal is in the offing even if The Reds will not meet the £12 million asking price.

"We know that we will have to sell him, it is just a question of price," said Vieira.

"If Liverpool had come up with £12 million, then he would already have gone."

Benitez may fund the transfer by offloading temperamental striker Djibril Cisse.

The French international has long been courted by Marseille and Cisse's incredulous reaction to being substituted in the second half of Liverpool's 1-0 win at Manchester City could hasten his departure from Anfield.

L'OM chairman, Pape Diouf, believes his side are in the box seat for a January transfer should The Reds opt to cash in.

"It is not impossible that this transfer can be concluded," claimed Diouf, "Marseille would be a very good club for him."

That part worries me.

Cisse has his flaws, but if we are going to sell him, i hope its not to fund the signing of a player in a different position.

He is the only striker that looks capable of scoring regulary at the moment and if he does go i would be really worried if another striker was not brought in.

Liverpool have taken Milton Keynes Dons keeper David Martin on a week's trial.

The 19-year-old, an England Under-19 international, will play for the Reds' reserves against Sunderland at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground on Tuesday.

Martin, who is 6ft 1in and the son of West Ham legend Alvin Martin, made his debut in April 2004, and made 20 first-team appearances last season.

However, the form and fitness of number one Matt Baker has restricted Martin to just two LDV appearances this term.

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez is looking for back-up to Jose Reina and Scott Carson, as Jerzy Dudek could leave Anfield in January, while Chris Kirkland is on loan at West Bromwich Albion.

Monaco ace Patrice Evra has admitted he is flattered to be linked with Liverpool and Internazionale.

The European champions and Inter have both held a long-term interest in the exciting full back.

Evra is thought to be considering his future at Monaco following the departure of Didier Deschamps earlier this season.

The French international is happy to attract the interest of Liverpool and Inter, but insists he will not be affected by the speculation.

"Those two clubs are still present, but it doesn't go to my head," Evra told But.

"There are a lot of beautiful clubs that are following my performances, but there is nothing concrete.

"I didn't give any agreement to anyone. It is a pleasure to hear those rumours."

very good player him. he was really impressive in monaco's run to the CL final a couple of years back. he's certainly better than anything we've got at left back anyway. he reminds me a lot of ashley cole.

I've got a good one here. A friend of mine works as a waiter in a hotel in London and he has told me that a couple of nights ago, he was serving Jermain Defoe and his agent in the lounge of this establishment. Being a waiter, he spent most of his time running around like a blue assed fly, but on the occasions that he did serve the tottenham player, he got the impression that Defoe is not very happy with his manager at the moment and is seriously considering switching clubs. My initial reaction, was something along the lines "yeah... right?... how long does it take to pour a glass of wine? Long enough to have a good listen? I don't think so" but from what I can gather, he saw papers with various letterheads displayed on the table. One was from Arsenal, one from Barcelona and one from Liverpool.

One of several things could be taken from this;

a) He's pulling my leg
b) He was drunk on the job (and knowing this guy, it's possible)
c) It did all happen, but it's nothing to do with a transfer
d) It did all happen, and he is leaving Spurs!

It's not too far fetched. Whispers of rumours and desires concerning Defoe have been around Liverpool and Barcelona for at least a year now, and it's rumoured in other circles too that he is understandably unhappy about finding himself on the bench for the past couple of games. And with rumours of cisse's departure abound, Benitez may well be after another striker.

Rumours, rumours, rumours. I wouldn't mind if this one were true though
