So important we kept steven gerrard

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

If you want to put it this way, Bigmick, I don't think that if we got a 1 month injury of Gerrard or Alonso right now, we'd crumble down in the table. We'd certainly miss them, as we did yesteryear, but the very thing I think we've improved a lot since last year is to play like a team. Certainly it seems to me that the whole squad has assumed better what Rafa wants of them. And thus I see that we are not that vulnerable if we have an important injury. I think we might lose some points or lose a final if we hadn't gerrard, but I don't think right now we'd crumble down neither if we had to be 1 month and a Half without Gerrard.

Sorry bigmick but would you denounce your liverpool fanship if gerrard was to leave?
I do not think so.

Players come and go mick;  rushie off aldridge in, Grobelaar off, Dudek in, Capisce?

Had Gerrard gone I don't think that in the greater context we would have struggled. Benitez is a world class manager and I think he would have easily coped with Gerrard going.

gerrard going would have been a devastating blow to this club.
he`s the best midfielder i`ve seen in over 30 years at anfield and he would have been almost impossible to replace. people my age will remember how much we missed souness and we never seemed to fill the void until we bought half a side in the late eighties.
gerrard is probably the best midfielder i`ve seen in english football tbh, brady, hoddle, robson and keane etc were all great but no way they had the complete game gerrard has.

Can't agree with that, when he's won the same as Keane and Vieira then i'd consider it. I'd also say he's very different to both players.

Roy Keane is probably the third best footballer i've seen live at a game. Gerrard is definately getting there but you can see by his use of the ball on occassions he's got a bit more to go first. Also, tactically he's nowhere near what Keane was. Keane could not only dominate a game, but dictate the pace of the game. While Gerrard can lead and dominate games by being everywhere, he doesn't have the tactical nouse of Keane, Vieira or even Alonso for that matter, he can't control the pace of a game and kill it off.

correct! but he will get there...tactical awareness

Gerrard are scoring good goals. Is it possible to transform him into a Striker ? He has the energy and drive. His shot is a killer..... He fights for the ball but I 'm not sure whether he's good with his heading. Hardly seen he head the ball into the net.

What do you guys think ?

Vieira has now left a massive void for Wenger to fill and there performances show how much he has been missed already half-way through a season.

Same with Manyoo Keane has moved on and now they will have to start seriously scoping the market if they ever want to be where they were during the 90's.
The difference between Manyoo and Arsenal is Manyoo have better players mostly in the other positions.

Now if you take Gerrard out of the Liverpool team I reckon that it would have a  similar effect to that of  Arsenal's current team. Its obvious they miss Vieira and it would DEFINATELY be obvious if we lossed Gerrard.
We would be able to cope without him if he got injured for a month or so , we have proven that before but if were to lose him on a permanent basis that would be a massive blow. That shows, when during the summer all Liverpool fans were biting there nails in panic , scampering round on the net, tv and news papers to find out whether he (Gerrard) was staying or going.
Rafa has since said that was the best bit of business he'd EVER done, and nobody can tell me that the likes of Essein , Ballack or Lampard etc could fill his boots.
1) Because he is the most complete footballer in the UK if not Europe and
has more impact on his team than any other player.

2) He is Liverpool born and bred, therefore playing in that red shirt would mean
more to him than any other player ie Essein - Ballack. Let me re-phrase that
I think that gives him and the likes of Cara an extra 10% to there game.

Me to Mick .Now that we are regaining our rightful place in the premiership I'm amazed at how casually dismissive of Gerrards worth to our team some fans seem to have become .This attitude of "If we'd sold one of the best midfielders in the world we'd just go out and buy another one " is laughable .

??? Err hang on a minute here, I never said we where a one man team, and I didnt mean that for one minute, how many goals has he scored this season alone?
More than our 4 strikers, as Bamaga man pointed out, Manure and arsenal have a few more better players than us, but what they do NOT have is our midfield.
Its just my opinion but we whould have fallen to pieces with out.
But we are NOT a one man team.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

I know I am a newbie and probably I should be posting this onto a new thread but then again knowing some of you guys have a knack of us newbies I've decided to remain minnow.

What if Rafa was to leave Liverpool?

Truth is, I am SICK AND TIRED of the connotation that Liverpool are useless without gerrard. WTF?? A BIG WTF!! I've been supporting this team before Gerrard was even born for pete's sakes. Come on, Liverpool IS BIGGER THAN STEVEN GERRARD!! Get that into your system!!
Would you guys ever consider that the person that we should be worrying about is RAFAEL BENITEZ and not STEVEN GERRARD!!
What if Rafa was to leave Liverpool? Ever consider that for a second?
Rafa has brought the "total football" back to anfield, the quality that our brothers and fathers only had seen back in the great shanks era. Our great shanks first coined the total football concept even before the dutch adopted it and cunningly and shamefully declared it as their own.
What if Rafa was to leave Liverpool? Could you possibly imagine what would happen to the team? Would Reina, Alonso, Morientes, Garcia stick to the team or follow the manager like what they have been doing before joining us?
Don't forget, he brought home the final piece of the glorious cup that entitled us to keep it forever. I do not see any manager of his equal. Not even maureen.
Gerrard can be found. Same like when we lost fowler, we got owen, et cetera.
Better managers are very hard to come by. Case Study: Real Madrid 2003 ~ 2006 when they lost Vincente Del Bosque.

If you'd spent a bit more time in here you'd perhaps realise that our prime position is indeed in accordance with your observation ie no single player is bigger than the club itself .

On the subject of Steven Gerrard many of us just happen to believe that the loss of Gerrard would be a severe blow to LFC ,nothing more nothing less.

As for Rafa , maybe you should have started another thread  ,but I'm glad you didn't , the forum gets enough sh'it threads already .
