Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Sabre » Sun Jan 15, 2006 11:40 pm

watched the match on tv at a friend's house who is also a big spurs fan -- we noticed something that someone at the game could clarify -- it appeared that davids was a shadow to alonso which would result in his 'quietness' -- we've both noticed this before and usually figure that it may be a tactic to take xabi out of the game and deal with gerrard

is this what is happening??

Sort of. :)

Alonso and Davids have met before, they are old friends.

Real Sociedad - Juventus

Real Sociedad - Barcelona

Liverpool - Tottenham

When he came with Juve, Edgards ws the same overrated player with more speed. Alonso was the shadow of Edgars, and this had a tough day (1).  In Barcelona he was already known, including the problems Davids has to dribble. It was quite funny to see Alonso pressing Davids (he did that 3 or 4 times, pursueing Davids), it was obvious ke knew what are David's weak points :) (but then, that's my particular point of view). I did see a special care of Davids to Alonso yes, he was well aware of who Xabi is by now. He didn't in Juventus.

(1) DAvids is a player that do not do complicated things, he runs a fair amount of kilometres and his work is good. But when he is severely pressed, he's erratic. Or so he was in Barcelona and Juventus in the last years
