I have strong reservations about parodying it. Its a song that is so rich in meaning in the fact that we sing it in memory of Hillsborough as well as to celebrate the Champions League win. Find another song please.

no we don't sing it in memory of hillsborough we've sung it since the 60's and its to honour all the LFC family past and present         buy the way lando  you kill me pmsl ace very good

Er, I think you'll find any self respecting Liverpool supporter will know what this song means to anyone affected by Hillsborough in any shape or form and if you don't know that then go to a game and find out, numb nuts.

Spot on Aussie. There's no accounting for the crassness of some people is there mate?

F*cking hell mate - IT WAS A JOKE!!!!!

The song was written long before Hillsborough, and LFC fans had adopted it about 20 years before the disaster.
I think you're looking for an arguement pal.

Stop making excuses to take the moral high-ground, you soft peasent.  :p

R.I.P. to the 96.
May they Never Walk Alone.

Err, I think as soon as Hillsborough got mentioned this thread started getting a bit heavy.
Might be an idea to close this mods?

Well as far as I'm concerned, it can stay open.

I'm not about to start arguing with a fellow LFC fan over Hillsborough.
There are some topics (this one) which should be respected.

(Just to clarify Glofut - I was messing when I called you a soft peasant.)

No true LFC fan, or decent human being can trivialise what happened on 15th April, 1989.

I can admit to you all that even though I have virtually no recollection of it, I have cried my eyes out over it.

I never meant to look like I was disrespecting the 96, and I hope that anyone who thought I was will now realise that it never even crossed my mind.

Best wishes chaps.  :)

how has this thread degenerated, why was hillsborough mentioned in this?

i dont think for one minute lando was being disrespectful to anyone, let alone hillsborough. the song has been sung at anfield since the 60s and the song is not even ours by rights, we didnt write it. it first appeared in the musical 'carousel' and was written by rodgers and hammerstein.

please stop trying to find problems where they dont exist, the song is associated with the whole club, not just hillsborough, so people saying its disrespectful are wrong to do so

it's silly to come up with the hillsborough issue. the song in itself has nothing to directly do in anyway with the issue

justice to the 96

Lando, I appreciated that you were having a laugh, and I don't doubt that you appreciate the value of the song and its words. I was actually addressing the people who are giving us an unneeded lecture on the songs origins and history, and trying to tell us that Hillsborough is some kind of irrelevant add on to the song's meaning to us all. I wish I'd got back to this earlier now because I sense you may have been very bothered by the issue. Don't be, please. I too would never want to argue over that issue with any fellow Red.

All I mean to say is that YNWA IS linked VERY closely with what happened, for many of us, and that is as long as those words make for incredible emotion every time it's sung or heard. I know its history very very well, folks. I just know what it means now is so much more since that day.

Jeez, this has got heavy. Sorry for making it an issue. I just worry when I think people might forget these things.  :(

i like many in this city had family and friends at hillsborough and i know exactly what the song means to us all,i wasn't being disrespectful on purpose if you think i was i apologise ,i was just trying to keep what started out as a light hearted thread ,that way.Once again if you were offended by my comments i apologise.
