Cisse is the answer,,what about midfield? - The wisest way to spend our money

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

If Owen gets the ball enough he will score right??
If Baros or Pognolle are allowed a few balls they will score too right?
Spending money on Cisse is not a waste but it is not the smartest use of the money we have.

Sell, Hamman, heskey, diouf, diao, smicer, biscan,
total=10mil
Money from the board 30 mil

Buy a great midfielder to replace hamman, one who can move the ball up the field and feed the strikers, one worthy of playing alongside gerrard.
15mil
Buy a midfielder, winger,, one who can cross the ball, with some speed up the wing,,,(not Wright-phillips)
15mil
A defender to play alongside Hyppia
10mil

This gives us a solid starting 11, capable of making a run for the Champions League Cup and the Premiership Title

             Kirkland/Dudek
       Finnan NEW Hyppia Risse
       Kewell Gerrard  NEW NEW
          Owen Baros/Pognolle

With Murphy/Henchoz/Carragher  and the yourg kids in reserve

Or does Houlier feel Smicer needs more time to grow into his position,,

We'd get more than £10m for Hamman, heskey, diouf, diao, smicer, biscan, at least £20m so with the £30m 'the boss' will get in the summer he should have about £40m and should have enough for some good players.

Nice ideas, but who and where are these players you want?

You live in dream world, who are these players?Whats their name?

I would like us to sign someone like Zidane, for £2m.

Thats the extent of your ideas? ????

£14m for one player UNPROVEN in the top leagues may or may not prove to be a "waste of money", but it is one expensive gamble. Not sure how you can conclude putting all our eggs in one basket by spending most of our funds on one player is "the smartest use of money" - that's like spending half your meal money on starters and running short by dessert  :D

Its great to hear balanced and constructive critism from so many LFC fans. I'm new to the forum and am here as an overseas Irish supporter who has finally decided to air his opinion! I think its now time for GH to move on. He has done a good job to date but the club needs a new manager to provide a fresh input of enthusiam, belief and tactical nous that will re-invigorate the current quality players. He will also have to bring in the few world class players that the team will need to bring us on to the next level. When we were competing with the a#se and mu 2 seasons ago we defended deeply as a unit, every player new his job and with Gerrard and McAlister/Spud in the team providing the quick defence splitting pass, we hit teams on the break and scored alot of goals without concedeing much. Pace in our defence was not a problem as we were always so deep. After we won the treble other managers and teams saw how we played and countered this approach by sitting deep themselves and thus leaving no space for the pace and clever runs of Owen. Add to this the injuries we have had over the last couple of seasons and you have why I believe we are now doing so badly. We have now had to change our approach and break teams down. We got rid of MacAlister ( he was only 39 - Stanley Matthews played untill he was in his 50s - we could have squeezed another few years out of Mac!!!) we got rid of Litmanen/ Fowler. All creative players who can provide that spark needed to break teams down. GH brought in Kewell this seasons and I think we need another 3 or 4 players of this quality. Cisse and Ibrahimovic for upfront to enable Owen to play off a target man with brains (sorry Emile good and nice as you are your down to the bench). Another quality wide mid-field player (keep Smicer and Diouf as cover) a centre back with pace (again keep Henchoz as cover if he'll sit on the bench or wait till Hyypia is injured?) and the most important a creative midfield wizard to complement Gerrard. Jay Jay Okocha might be the man although I've read here that some think he's not LFC calibre- have you forgotten about John Barnes? If you look at the a#se,mu and chelski they now all have nearly a second string set of players that could be fielded as their first team. we need to be able to do the same so getting rid of solid team players such as Spud Murphy, Hamman, Henchoz, Smicer and Diouf, Baros, Cheyrou (who are still young players) is not the answer. I also think to be abusive towards GH and/or the backroom staff or current players who have all done their best for LFC is un-called for and very unlike true LFC fans. Although I can understand that teeth grinding frustration in that we are not quite yet where we rightly should be - playing the beautifull game at the top of the pile with grace and honour. Finally the most honourable and right thing for Gh to do this summer would be to realise that he has taken the team as far as he can and step down himself. This will not happen for two reasons pride and money. Apologies for the rambling nature of this post.
Thanks, The Heighwayman.

no great post and welcome. u have pretty much summed up what fans on this board have been saying all season. this is the best football club in the world. you can't fool the liverpool fans. they know that houllier should go but the likelihood is he won't anytime soon. unfortunately the board are too busy with their heads up their backsides to see that this man is dragging us down to mediocrity.

Thanks Lads,
Will do.

If Gh does stay we all should get behind him and the team.

I remember before we were dominating in the mid to late 70s there was also a couple of up and down seasons where we didn't do as well as we should. Expectations of managers  wasn't anything like it is today!

My point is that perhaps 14 mil would be better spent in the midfield where we need the help.  Another expensive striker standing around is not needed.

We have enough to buy two great players in the midfield  and at least 15 mil to spend on each.  As a team we take a look at who is available, who would fit in and who we can afford.  I'm sure if we look we can find two great midfielders who fit the bill.

Lemon your antics must have worn thin long ago,, please contribute positively,,, ( nowhere did I suggest Zidane for 2mil)  Perhaps since you seem to know so much you can give us some ideas as to what you would do with the team, or how the money can be spent in a better fasion than what I have suggested.  I challenge you to do it.  I don't think you can.

"you'll never walk alone"  but you're bloody close!!!! :D

Im still saying VDV and Mendietta. I know ive said this on most posts but its what i want! Or Hargreaves :D
Basically theres a lot of talent there, and we need to get some of it. I have to agree about the Argies though, no offence but they do tend to fall over lot... is Heskey Argentinian?

I also like Mendietta. He was fantastic at Valencia and seems to have adapted well to the demands of English Football. Have only seen him play a handful of games this season but liked what i saw (even if he has been played out on the right for some games)

Aimar is quality but i am generally sceptical about South American players adapting to English football as so few have really made an impact on a consistent basis.

I heard Liverpool are offering £100 grand a week PLUS to Michael Owen to stay, if that happens his wages will be over £5million a year and that will limit what we can do in the summer.

Thats far too much money to spend. Sure he's our star turn but his injury record is not that impressive and I remember  Darren Anderton being star turn at Spurs one time.

yeah when you look at it no team can afford to lose a player of michael's ability for 3 months of a season and still expect everything to be rosy. that's where arsenal have been quite fortunate. one of these days thierry henry has to get an injury and watch how that effects arsenal.
