Oh, yes, I remember. The last time was Rushie, was it in 1983/84 or 1986/87? Not even the prolific John Aldridge who played in the most fluently attacking football-playing Liverpool side with Barnes, Beardsley, Whelan, McMahon, Hansen of 1987/88 managed 30+ goals a season.

Fowler, Owen, Collymore, Heskey etc. never quite managed 30+ goals each a season even in their pomp. For one, the standard of defending and fitness has gone up by quite a bit in the EPL and it is not reasonable to expect a main striker to score 30+ a season unless the whole team goes through an exceptional season and we get drawn against minnows, who we can hammer by 6 or more goals in a match, in every round of the FA Cup anf the League Cup.

Get real.

Fowler scored 30+ goals in 3 consecutive seasons.

RUSHIE#9 also made the same point.

It was GLARINGLY obvious what Rafa was doing, by only buying what he knew at the time....But errr obviously not to everyone ???  ???

In reply to the original posting ......."Im not ranting or moaning and am very happy with what rafa has brought in from spain except maybe garcia......" (I know thats not the right way to quote but....) So Garcia is the worst spanish signing?......I don't think so. There's only Alonso ahead of him for me the jury are still out on Pepe and Mori.???

And technically Rafa didnt have much choice with Nunez as it was part of Owen deal.

Sissoko and Pellegrino came from the spanish league. This brings the number of players signed from the spanish league by benitez to 10 out of 19 signings.

And so far only four have proved capable of playing in the first team, that is:reina, alonso, garcia and sissoko.

The others including motientes have proved to be :censored: signings

shouldnt we be looking for defenders in the italian league?

The defenders we have got from the spanish league.josemi and pellegrino, have been very disappointing.

Just hope the new dutch guy will fit in ;)

Of course Pellegrino and Josemi are poor players, but the reason is not because they play in the Spanish League. The reason is simply because they are players below the quality we need.
But the best defender I have ever seen is Spanish and he plays in the Spanish league. His name is Puyol. I assure that he would be the perfect player for our team. The problem is that there is no way we can buy him.

If I may add, they (pellegrino and josemi) didn't fit in the "family". They couldn't play with the team and rafa knew it from the start. Managers take serious risks when signing players. Both players are highly rated in La Liga  but why couldn't they shine in the premiership?

Simple, they cannot work with the team.

The way i look at it, rafa is trying to find players that can complement every players in the squad. For instance krompkamp and agger are highly rated players but if they cannot work with big boys like finnan, carragher, hyypia, gerrard, alonso, kewell and the rest, i'm pretty sure that they'll both end up like pellegrino and josemi.

Rafa had transformed Valencia from a rigid non-scoring team into a total-football, ar.se kicking team based on the same formula. It is the same formula he is injecting into the team without having to spent so much on excellent but expensive players.
