What we really, really, REALLY need is a center-half who can dominate in the air like Sami does.

If not we are going to be f*cked when he retires.

To replace Sami is going to be one of Rafas most difficult tasks at Anfield and a very important one.He has been our rock at the back for a few years now and I must say Im not looking forward to it when its time for him to move on or move over.
Most reports recently have been linking us with Agger who is highly regarded, but apparently Brondby are upping there asking price now to seven million.
It seems Rafa doesnt want to pay this, but I honestly think he's going to have to pull the wedge out sooner or later because if he persists in bargain hunting he may end up with nothing. As the likes of ManUre and other European clubs are getting in there and snatching them from right under our noses.
I dont know who else originally had there eye on Agger but because we have been rumoured to signing him for such a while it has drawn attention from all over Europe.
I know he wouldnt be able to join us until the 29th but if Rafa was sure about him and has had him watched since summer he should just whack the money on the table.
To eventually replacing Sami at possibly seven million I think is an absoloute bargain and would/could turn out to be Rafas best signing only second to Gerrard. Even if it means not buying a right midfielder until summer we can still cope in that area.
It must be hard to find the perfect player and to think it out on whether to buy him or not , but as I've said already if he's been scouted properly over a course of time surely he should pay on impulse just this once.

The reason why it seems so hard to sign any players is because we have a limited budget that we simply cannot make any mistake like GH. Also, we are now treated as one of the premium team in the world as we won the CL and everyone want to screw us badly. This just comes with the territory of being one of the major club in the world. If you are the seller, you would do the same. Unless Rafa can make the first signifcant signing (a CB or RM), he wouldn't open the floodgate as he doesn't know how much he needs afterward if he overpays the first one.

But i agree a cover at the CB position is the most urgent as it is very vital position that we can't make a mistake. Rafa is looking for a long term replacement and not really a back up. That's why its tough to get the right player. If he couldn't find any long term replacement, I'm sure he will go for a short term backup just like last year. He really knows what he is doing and I stand by him not trying to overpay anyone.

DANIEL AGGER arrived at Anfield today to complete a £5.8m transfer from Brondby.

The Danish club gave the European Champions permission to meet the 21-year-old international defender after Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry flew out to Denmark earlier this week.

A fee was finally agreed this morning, allowing Agger the chance to become the second Anfield recruit of the transfer window, subject to a medical.

Rafa Benitez believes the youngster can offer an instant threat to the places of Sami Hyypia and Jamie Carragher.

Defence is strenghtened with Kromkamp and Agger. Should be enough to finish the season in style. If we could get a right winger and convince the f@ckers that Gonzalez should play for liverpool we look real strong. real god damn strong.

I believe Rafa sees Agger more as a replacement for Sami, than back-up.

I said what you've quoted as hopefully JC has quite a few years left at the top, whereas Sami is beginning to wane from the sands of time.

But yes - we DO need cover for JC aswell!!!!!
