Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

At the very best Smicer has had 5 good games for Liverpool.

He has done well a couple of times when he came on as a sub but not enough to turn games. He had a good game when he come on against Basle last year and scored but we still drew the game and went out.

I have seen a huge amount of players come and go in my time following Liverpool and Smicer and Biscan would be two of the poorest players I have seen don the red jersey in decades.

I am a massive massive fan of Liverpool and it hurts me terribly when we lose but I've been following the Pool too long without getting blinkered or beer goggles about certain players abilities. I'll call a spade a spade and Smicer is simply not good enough for Liverpool, even as a squad player.

Vision? My a#se! There is absolutely no end product whatsoever to Smicer's game.

While Smicer has underachieved in a Liverpool shirt (the one that matters folks, ***** the Czech Republic), he is by no means the first player we should offload. Heskey, Diao, Diouf, Cheyrou and Biscan are all way ahead of Smicer in the line to leave Liverpool (as most supporters would probably agree)

We look better away from home and struggle at home not becuase the fans get on the players backs but we are simply not adventurous enough at home to break down teams that come here to defend.

We are too one dimensional and apart from the same up and under to Owen, Kewell and Heskey or working the ball laboriously down the right through Diouff and Murphy, or the occasional corner to Hyppia's head we have no real ability to create.

Murphy had a good spell of whipping in tasty free kicks last year but not anymore.

We never score from free kicks, nor penalties, and apart from Steven Gerrard, you'll never see a quality ball to the forwards.

At away games we are far better as we have much more space to run into.

Smicer a good player, your havin a laugh! hes absolute s##t! what because he has a few skills that makes him a good player? the premiership is the most physical league in the world and smicer has the strength of a toddler! no end product, consistency, goals, assists you name it smicer hasnt done it for us. How s##t like him gets 5 years at the club is beyond me when houllier sold so many much more talented individuals without giving them half the chances hes given smicer.

I cannot think of one game that Smicer won for us.

Sorry to pull you up like this, but Chelsea at home towards the end of the season before last, volley wasnt it on the edge of the box. One nil win.

if you remember at the start of the season our midfield was very attack minded- diouf, gerrard, smicer, kewell. smicer actually looked quite good during that period. i agree that he has good technique but for me he is not the answer.

i rate murphy quite highly although his form has dipped. he's not been the same since he got that injury that kept him out the world cup. i'd have him in the squad if only to take penalties. no'one else can bloody score them.

I had forgotten about that (I said "I cannot think of a game....") but one or two good games in 5 years is simply not good enough.

Smicer is a " pretty " player. He would probably look outstanding in lets say the bundisliga with more time and space but he hasn't really cut it in the premiership.
As for murphy, he was on the up and up last season possibly our most improved player, felt sorry for him when injury stopped his chance of appearing in the World Cup. Since then like most of the team he seems to be going backwards.Time for them both to move on , at the moment they are just making up the squad numbers and wage bill.

I'd keep Smicer for the time being, he's not our worst player by a long shot. I'd like to see him play under a different manager, maybe find a role he likes. He hasn't really impressed nonetheless and like Houllier, cannot expect to escape criticism
