Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Garcia picked up a minor knee injury against Bolton, however he may not be able to play against Tottenham if he doesn't recover quickly enough.

Liverpool Echo
LUIS GARCIA is fighting off a knee problem in a bid to face Spurs this weekend.

The Spanish star missed Saturday's clash with Luton due to the injury which has been worrying him since scoring against Bolton on January 2.

The injury isn't considered serious, and the forward will return to training at Melwood today as manager Rafa Benitez prepares for a crucial fixture.

With Spurs dumped out of the FA Cup, their visit to Merseyside represents an opportunity to launch a genuine threat to the Reds' Champions League qualification hopes.

With two games in hand, Benitez's side have loftier ambitions than merely finishing in the top four this season, but they'll be wary of Martin Jol's improving side.

Meanwhile, the saga of Daniel Agger's transfer to Liverpool is continuing with the Reds attempting to break the deadlock regarding the player's valuation.

Brondby boss Michael Laudrup has admitted Agger won't remain in Danish football for much longer, and the player has made clear his desire to move to Anfield. However, while the Danes continue to inflate their valuation, the stalemate continues.

Talks are continuing on a daily basis between Liverpool and Brondby as Benitez seeks the compromise necessary to finally end his long pursuit of a defender.

If there is no resolution soon, the Spanish manager's patience will run out and he'll call the chase off.

Benitez has already ended his interest in Deportivo Saprissa winger Christian Bolanos following an unsuccessful trial.

Bolanos made a bright start during a practice match last Tuesday, but was less impressive during the whole week.

"He did well in his time at the club but we decided he was not the type of player we are looking for at the moment," a club statement confirmed.

I don't think Garcia will start even if he is fit. I see the {Kewell - Alonso - Hamann\Sissoko - Gerrard} midfield as the ideal option. Why change it?

I'll second that.
Spurs will provide a tough test, and maybe that's the midfield we need to put out.
