:censored: hell, I'm no computer wiz or anything, but I know enough to relaise that is one hell of a machine you've got there.

Yes, awesome for about 3 weeks!  :D

Computer technology is advancing so fast at the moment that what was hot yesterday is so so tomorrow.

For example, my graphics card is currently the second best graphics card money can buy at the moment (for home use). It was released in mid November. ATI, who designed it, will release another card in late January which will be about 25%-35% faster (at least) than my card.

Its the equivalent of a new Ferrari or Porsche being released very four months which is 30% or 40% better than the previous car.

Home computers and laptops are now very cheap (compared to a few years ago) but if you want a powerful gaming machine, you still have to splash the cash.

You won't be able to get my machine in a store or from someone like Dell: you either have to have them custom built or build one yourself (like I did).

How do you find the Dual Core 64's?  I was thinking of building a system with one in it, and trying the 64bit version of XP.  I mainly use Photoshop and Sony Vegas - very little gaming.  It may be a cheaper option that building a dual processor system.

Judge: the XPs is ok but a bit pricey for what you are getting. It also has an Intel CPU and Intels are currently quite weak in gaming.

If you want a good gaming PC generally the best you can get are Alienware, although these can be very expensive.

Some UK online retailers have some excellent PCs with good specs. Check these out: Mesh is an example.

Hawkmoon: dual cores are still in their infancy and there are not many games or software which yet take full advantage of them. However, they offer an immediate improvement to desktop performance. For example, with a dual core you can burn a DVD or decode a film while browsing the internet with no lockups or slowdowns.

The 64 bit windows is a dead duck and I'd keep well away. It has poor driver support and is incompatible with many software. Wait till Windows Vista comes out later this year: this will offer both 32 and 64 bit support under the one operating system.

I'll just tell the wife I can't afford the new kitchen, and buy an FX57 and Corsair XMS memory!  I might even overclock it! :D

Buy football manager 2006, a good 2D match engine, new commentry, half time and full time team talks, you can discuss your own contract with the board (just signed a new 5-year liverpool deal btw  :;):  ) Training is better. You get a media report of every match you play. You can look at ref's profiles and see how many yellows he's given out etc. It also tells you your players preferred moves and natural positions.

FM 2006 is the best around. Plus you can go to www.cmfrenzy.com and update it, get new graphics and pictures to go with all players.

I think there's a new version of Sensible Soccer coming out. It looks great: modern fancy graphics effects but still retains the old style camera angle, player style and simple gameplay.

All time classic.

Sabre: you a fan of the Lucasarts and Sierra games as well?

Yup, specially the old fashioned, prompt input Sierra games (Ah, King Quest saga). With Leisure suit Larry 2, I learnt more english than in one year of school.

I have finished (without help, don't cheat!) the indiana jones saga, Maniac Mansion, and most of the lucasfilm games. Grim Fandango and newer games are cool too.
