It was a really good game to watch - am gutted that I didn't go. The neutrals will have had a field day with that. All credit to Luton who would have been full value for a win after about 50-60 mins.
We were pretty dreadful all first half apart from the goal and a nice bit of one touch play that didn't come off around the same time. Again in the second half we were poor for 15-20 minutes, but after Pongolle came on it was one-way traffic.
Alonso's first looked awesome, but was actually a fluke - it ballooned up off a defender's ankle just after he hit it. Aside from his goals, Alonso had a very poor game - his passing was often wayward, and he put us in trouble on more than one occasion.
Cisse was poor - the penalty summed him up for me. Sami was poor, Carra was poor, Crouch was almost anonymous, Sissoko was diving all over the place first half and deserved to be subbed. Finnan was skinned almost at will for an hour, Riise was skinned on the right for most of the first half, Carson was unconvincing first half but calmed down in the second half (he was unfortunate for the penalty).
Riise for me was the best of our back four, but even so was only about 5/10, mainly for his work going forward in the second half, which says it all really.
To be honest, only Kewell, Gerrard and - in particular - Pongolle emerged with any real credit. We only started playing when Pongolle came on, and I think Cisse should be very concerned about how the pecking order is starting to look. Sinama's played himself into a starting place for me.
All the same, a very good match. Yeah, the team deserve the mother of all b*llockings for getting themselves into a hairy situation, but if today's game helps to re-emphasise the importance of the FA Cup to football fans all over the country, it'll be a poor performance for the greater good of the game.
