Football 365 - End of year awards

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby 112-1077774096 » Fri Dec 30, 2005 5:31 pm

we had a few menitions

Most Improved Player of the Year
Winner: Jamie Carragher. Simply faultless since being permanently moved to the centre of defence, and one of those all-too few footballers who you sense is a still a good bloke.

Man of the Year
Winner: Rafa Benitez. Dignified, restrained, respectful. And a European Cup winner.

Denial of the Year
Winner: Harry Redknapp for ruling out a return to Portsmouth.
Runner-Up: Jose Mourinho for being in denial about Chelski’s Champions League exit at Liverpool.

Comeback of the Year
Winner: Liverpool’s six-minute miracle in Istanbul. They just had to win on penalties after that, didn’t they?

Myopic of the Year
Winner: Jose Mourinho. He didn’t see Essien’s studs-up challenge...but he did manage to accuse Tal Haim of fouling Essien instead.
Runner-Up: Jose Mourinho. He didn’t see Essien hack at Hamann...but he did manage to accuse Sissoko over a far less 'enthusiastic' tackle

Prediction of the Year That We Will Use Next Year
Winner: "To be first or second has no consequences" - Jose on Champs League qualification. Worth remembering in February when Liverpool face Benfica while Chelski battle it out with La Liga leaders Barcelona...

Sore Loser of the Year
Winner: Jose Mourinho. Still refusing to accept that Liverpool scored a match-winning goal in their CL semi.

Worst Tackle of the Year
Winner: Michael Essien kneecapping Bolton’s Ben Tal Haim.
Runner-Up: Michael Essien attempting to remove Dietmar Hamann’s leg from its rightful owner.

Cup Final Injustice of the Year
Runner-Up: Sao Paulo beating Liverpool in the Club World Championship final despite failing to escape their own half after the interval. Next they’ll telling us that they’re the best team in the world. Oh. Hang on...

ive just mentioned the ones that include the reds

just listening to radio merseysides half hour preview show for LFC that they have on fridays and a fella was on from the supporters club. apparently they had their awards yesterday at anfield and it sounds like quite a few ex players and current players were there at the do.
they gave a special award to jerzy dudek and the fella said when his name was read out the place went nuts. apparently jerzy was taken aback by the reception he got. jamie carragher was there to get his player of the year award and also 60`s red geoff strong was honoured. he was a bit before my time but i`ve heard the stories how he was injured in the days before subs but got off the floor to score in the massive european game against the great celtic team of the day and other tales of his bravery. apparently he got a bit emotional when he got his award from ex team mate ian st john.

Other honourable mentions (not necessarily LFC connected)

Mute of the Year
Winner: Roman Abramovich. Isn’t anyone interested in hearing from the most influential man in football?
Runner-Up: Roy Keane. Is anyone not interested to know what he said in that unbroadcastable interview on MUTV?

Prediction of the Year
Winner: "I'm confident we can go through. We'll be in the next round, don't worry about that" - Sir Alex Ferguson prepares for ManYoo’s Champs League tie with Benfica...

Pundit of the Year
Winner: The Right Honourable Anthony Charles Lynton Blair, MP, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, who made a surprise guest appearance on Football Focus and hailed Steed Malbranque, Teddy Sheringham and Arjan de Zeeuw as his ‘unsung heroes of the Premiership’. That afternoon, Malbranque scored twice in Fulham’s 2-1 win, Sheringham scored the only goal at Upton Park, and De Zeeuw guided Wigan to yet another clean sheet. Now we understand why’s he in charge.

Villain of the Year
Winner: Harry Redknapp. Dishonest, misleading, and farcical. If he didn't have so many mates (and family) in the press, perhaps someone on Fleet Street may have spoke of the moral vacuum in which he operated. Fan loyalty is the lifeblood of football. Creatures like Redknapp make a mockery of the fans and the game.
Runner-Up: Peter Kenyon. He is what he is.

Least Believable Rumour Of The Year
Winner: 'Sir Bobby Robson has received a sensational SOS call from crisis-torn Real Madrid' - The Sun.

Some quality stuff there.  :D

yeah he`s got parkinsons disease hasnt he phil?
the same thing ali`s got.
awful.
what a player he was, always scoring when we were right in the sh.1.te like away in the european cup semi final against bayern munich. they`d got a 0-0 draw at anfield in the first leg and were packed to the gunwhales with the german internationals that used to dominate world cups in those days.
we were second favourites that night in front of their massive home crowd, especially when kenny went off injured after ten minutes wasnt it? and howie gale came on! howie played great but it was the big fella from the north east that came to our rescue as he often did.

the two Rays (Kennedy and Clemence) were my favourite players when I started supporting this club. Ray Kennedy was a consistent and immense player for us and it is sad to learn about his illness in the past few years :bowdown

Take care Ray, you are one of this club's greats.
