Still the fans are arguing over Houllier, still the debate rages on. The fans, the kop are divided because they live in hope. Their are multitudes, I'd say 80% who want him out. But the die hards the Houllier faithful the 20% who live in cloud cukcoo land are standing by the record breaking manager. They have in many cases paid their season tickets so theynot only want but can dream a return. Fourth place is enough for these fans. But then fourth place would be enough for every single team below Arsenal. Man U and Chelsea. Let me tell you what fourth place and third place and even second place really means, absolutely nothing. History only remembers the winners. The guys who caryy the banner about Liverpool destiny being written speak of times long gone. The legacy is over it was killed not by Houllier but by incompetence and the apoointment of three successive mangagers who in their way have all bried the club. Souness thought that by winning a mickey mouse two horse league that he would conquer the English crown, his hard man tactics were dispised by a bunch of players who had just witnessed their manager leaving because he could'nt deal with the terrible consequences of Hillsbrough and Heysel. Lets be Honest who out their can fault Kenny dalglish. Who could deal with the loss of 96 of your beloved faithful and cope. Our problem as a club and as a team is that we have never laid these fans to rest we have never got them justice and many of us me included have not given our own and the Hillsbrough victims our support. So how can we ever expect to move on until we take care of the past. Roy Evans came after Souness and He was just way way in too deep. But at leats he had played football at some level. Houllier took over and he Knows nothing whatsoever about football, He knows nothing whatsoever about the cloud of destiny that hang over this club, he knows nothing whatsoever about the pain that the fans have had to live with, he can't by a decent player, because he dosent know what he looking for, My god someone has gat to ask him these questions

1 What is does Liverpool FC Mean?
2 What is he and the club personally doing regarding the Hillsbrough Victims
3 What is the club doing regarding the Heysel Victims
4 What does he look for in a player
5 How is he going to ever win the premiership without winning the California state lottery or without a Abrahmovic buying the club
6 How long will it take past this five year paln

When Shankly came to Anfield in his first season he sold or sacked 19 players. Thats the extent of the current situation.

Now its not that we are in real relegation trouble, don't get me wrong we could be. But Wake up wake up we are so so so far behind. The top three are miles ahead of us and we are falling further behind all the time.

Arsenal have proven that money isn't the be all and end all, Wenger's shrewd tactics have kept him in the hunt. We don't have to do a manu and win 8 out of 10 or whatever, just one will do to start. Wenger has shown time and time again that he is better than Fergie and next season maybe the true test will start as Chelski make a serious bid to break the dominance of the top two.

I can't understand the faith of the few. We might have got lucky one or two seasons ago and won the league, but now we have to compete with a phenomenal Arsenal team, Chelski's millions and a wounded manu who will buy in the summer. We are not just adrift of the top three, but struggling to establish ourselves in fourth. Maybe the blind can't see it, but I sure as hell can.

If we ditch Houllier now then there is still the foundation upon which to build a good side - whether it would be good enough to compete with the big three is a different matter. We are drifting under Houllier and someone needs to install a new rudder to steer us in some direction. The rate Houllier is going we'll be lucky to still have Owen and Gerrard when he leaves. The longer Houllier stays the more he has done will become undone, we won't attract the big names or even good players and become another spurs - forever living in the past and maintaining we are a big club despite the lack of results to substantiate those claims.

Some of the claims that Houllier will win the Premiership make me laugh - even if he does survive into next season, he would have to do substantially better to get a season beyond that and do they seriously believe we can win it in the next 1-2 years? We'll be lucky to make fourth at this rate

Excellent post big Al (As per usual). You touch on a few issues in the post not least of all Hillsborough. For the record i've supported this club since i could walk and walk I did out of Hillsborough in 1989 by the grace of God or luck depending on your view of life. I think there are countless people doing good work for the victims of Hillsborough and the campaign for justice goes on. I always think its a pity fans dont discuss Hillsborough although I understand why they don't. Respect for the families of victims, a desire not to say the wrong thing, a lack of knowledge of what actually happened on the day and subsequent events following are just a few. However Its difficult to know what else LFC can do as a club and GH in particular on this sensitive subject. I went to the 15th memorial service last week and was touched by the sensitive and respectful way the club and HJC conducted the whole service. Players past and present were there to pay their respects and there was an air of real togetherness in remembrance and ongoing fight for justice.
