Have any of our (recent) African signings been a success? I think how cr@p the African teams have done at the World Cup in the last ten years and it makes me wonder why we keep signing them. Okocha and Kanoute are about the only worthwhile African players in the Premiership that I can think of, why do we have to sign them? I can only assume it is the French connection - all of them came from French Clubs

In my opinion, none of the players you have mentioned are worthy to wear the Liver Bird on their chest.

My favourite of the lot was Titi, he was entertaining and the emotion of his goal following the death of his father was something I will remember for the rest of my life.

Maybe the question for the poll should have been worded who of the african players would have got into Liverpool squads of old.

THE ANSWER ZERO.

P.S. how many truly great African players can you think of ???

George Weah, Roger Milla, plus one or two other Cameroon players. We should look elsewhere, is there a top club in Europe that has a major player who is African? (an African international)

Why can't we get Jay Jay Okacha? Were a far better team than Bolton - apart from in the League Cup. He should be honoured that were interested in him.

I will give you Gearge Weah, but Roger Milla was well known cus he played till he was 40 odd, and that daft goal celebration, not for his footballing skills. Can you name me any clubs he played for ?

DIDNT THINK SO

Bit long ago to remember that much detail, but if you'd asked me five or ten years ago I probably could. Isn't much of an argument anyway - does it matter who he played for?!?!?!?

If you take into account the ones with african origins, there are a lot of them.

so i would say the potential is here, but the lack of infrastructures kinda undermines it.

First of all, I know one of great player who used to be play for Liverpool who was born in SOUTH AFRICA, do you know who?

I expect some of Liverpool fans of this forum may know or doesn't know about it.

Craig Johnson was born in Johanesburg, South Africa, he moved to Australia later, but he WAS born in Africa, he was the hell of great player for Liverpool in history. But sadly, he had to retired from professional football games, cos he went to back to Australia to look after his sister who was in seriously ill. I respect him for that, but I never forget him as brilliant Liverpool player and never forget his's goal celebration in FA Cup Final against Everton in 1986, remember the ballet jumping!!!

Roger Milla used to played for top clubs in France included Mointipieller (they were good side in mid 80s), Lyon and St.Ettiene too.

There are loads and loads of great players born in africa but they play for other nations.
example:
Vieira-born in Senegal-plays for France
Zidane-born in Algeria-plays for France
Makalele-born in Dem.Rep.of Congo-passes as French

French connection :;):

For the record Zidane was born in France (Marseille)

but you can add Marcel Dessailly to the list.
