we all agree he was class. so lets not start getting into fights (stu) and all agree he'll get a clap when he comes on, but once the whistle goes, all bets are off.

(fowlers bigger legend lol)

bigmick wrote:I would personally take a fully fit, firing and at his very best Fowler over Owen anyday TBH. In fairness to them both it is a long time since either could claim to be in that condition but Fowler was much the better footballer of the two in my view. It's all opinions of course but I'm confident I'm correct on this one. BTW happy crimbo' Leon and Stu, two of the best posters on the forum.

At what?

Mental:
Attitude, Owen
Aggression, Same
Determination, Owen
Bottle, Same
Work rate, Same
Influence, Same

Owen's better. Fowler was however good in the area and not far off Owen.

Technical:
Skill, Fowler just
Technique, Fowler
Touch, Same
Dribbling, Owen
Passing, Owen
Heading, Fowler
Shooting, Fowler
Finishing, Owen Just
Flair, Fowler
Weaker foot, Fowler

Fowler's better. Owen is good here, not far off Fowler.

Phyiscal:
Pace, Owen
Strength, Owen
Agility, Owen
Balance, Owen
Stamina, Owen

Owen's pace, agility, strength and Balance were superior to Fowlers quite considerably.

Intelligence:
Anticipation, Fowler
Positional play, Owen
Movement, Same

Fowler was better at reading the flight of the ball and beating defenders to the ball, Owen contributed by defending up the pitch alot better than Fowler ever did. In terms of movement Fowler's was clever, Owen's was about his pace, both were excellent at what they did.

Overall Owen was the better player.

Fowler often slipped over, was often sloppy in possession and was quite poor in terms of hold up play. His ability to link with other players was very good but if the game was against a team with a high line he often struggled as he didn't have the ability to play as a target man or the sort of player who can get in behind.

With Fowler and Owen there is an arguement. Both were exceptional.

Baros though...

that is well thought out stu, but i wonder where u got your stats from? personal opinion?
thats all well and good, thats the whole point of football, personal opinion. Thats why chelski prefer lamps and we prefer gerrard. We may prefer fowler because we were not happy with owens exit.

The one fact i do know is that the person fowler was alot more interesting than the person owen. and that adds a lot to legend status.

Also we all know that barring injury fowler was the best finisher we had. And when he first linked up with rushie it was a truly magificent sight to see.

Personally i woulda liked to see them play together, but that will never happen. Personlly i prefer fowler, but im not gonna get into a pi$$ing contest over it

Owen and Fowler disliked each other.

The two of them couldn't remain professional so something had to give. The better player stayed.

The two of them could have and should have been the strike partnership this club had ever seen. They should have been better than Rush and Dalglish. They had the ability. I don't give a :censored: what anyone says, they could have been better and its a crime that they weren't.

The management as well as the players were to blame.

i don't agree and this it's a nice twist of irony that a player who has left us to 'win the European cup' is now with a average midtable team with no chance of winning anything.  I won't boo Owen, but i'm not cheering.....not unless Carra gets a crunching tackle in  :D

Im with stu the red -nice to see someone remembers what our past players did for the club-just shows me what the club means to him as a supporter. Owen wasnt just a great player for us -he was damn well exceptional, only a young kid too.
Matter of opinion about him being better than Fowler, but Own shades it for me -hes been exceptional nomatter where hes been and for England too.
Booing him is just silly, I honestly think hes still in love with this club, and always will be  :;):
