I am also bitterly dissapointed but you cannot point fingers. Kewell had a good game. We dominated that game and didn't deserve to lose. Give Rafa a break his father has just died. Nobody is perfect I think you are forgetting that. You're talking out of your @rse mate.

Of course you can point fingers.
And I'm pointing mine at Raffa. Whatever the circumstances were the team selection WAS wrong.

Rafa is a tactician. To me his tactics worked perfectly. The only thing that didn't work out was the result.

22 shots to 0 in the second half

17 corners to 0 in the whole game

As Liverpool fans we all know what its like to win but some just don't know how to lose. We must take positives out of the game. We can bounce back.

johnbull, i agree that the team selection was wrong from the start. after thursday there's no doubt that crouch and cisse should have continued upfront.

however team selection was not to blame for the defeat. we just missed umpteen chances which we'd normally put away. was team selection to blame when gerrard missed four sitters against boro on the first day?

yes it's disappointing that we lost. however to suggest that this may impact on us for the rest of the season is simply nonsense. i fully expect us to bounce back against newcastle in the next game.

You've a short memory if you cannot remember one game ruining a season and I just hope that this was not one of those games.
Ridiculous performance from a side deserving much much more.

1 shot no goals, 100 shots no goals, 1000 shots no goals , it's the "no goals" that matter !

i presume you're talking about the 2002/2003 season when we went to boro and lost and subsequently collapsed. i'm sorry but this current team cannot be compared to that one. that team back then had one way of playing and if that failed we had no plan b. you will also remember that our "genius" of a manager back then dropped hyypia and turned biscan into a makeshift centre half.

this team is far superior already and will only get better.

The team couldn't have been wrong considering the stats quoted here. Im sorry but Rafa Benitez chose a team that worked fine. You dont batter teams like we did today when you team selection was wrong

I'm not going to join the bashing Rafa over team selection, for whatever reason he thought the team he put out could win it,hes the manager i'm not...............what i will say however with us chasing a goal after going behind, i cant believe after an hour he didnt give Crouch and Cisse a run for the last half hour of the game instead of bringing Crouch on with 8 minutes left..........WTF was that decision.? ?????

The team selection was realistic given the importance or lack thereof of the the whole tournament. He rotated the strikers and the full-backs, and most of the people in the party got a game. With all due respect to sao Paulo, Rafa could probably put any collection of players out he wanted and we'd beat them nine out of ten times. Obviously given the changes in the finances of football globally these days, the days of running into the likes of Zico and the like when you play the Brazillian champions are long gone. This was a fairly average team we played against but it was just their day so I'm not sure a different team selection would have made that much difference. As it was, Liverpool were much the better team from start to finish and absolutely battered them for the last half hour so the team can't have been that far wrong.
I said all along I felt the whole thing was a waste of time and for me, whether or not we picked up injuroies is the most important thing.

we simply were not good enough.

Morientes- missed free header, 1st half.

gerrard missed a sitter in the box, an easy chance when 3 days earlier he scored an almost impossible goal.

Morientes- missed a sitter in the box, 2nd half.
plus others

chances we should be putting away.

If we deserved to win, we would have scored 3 legitimate goals.

If you win this , it means you are the best club side in the world! so it does mean a lot.

The four games over 7/8 days coming up, will tell us everything about where we are at.
