I just hope that Liverpool does not get carried away just because its drawn witha supposedly lesser team. In my opinion this is instead one of the tougher draws which could have happened as suddenly we are no longer underdogs and the clear favorities to progress? How will the players respond? If it is going to be against the 'bigger' clubs we can be almost assured of a 120% effort by the players. But now maybe something will play on the players' minds and they might just take a half step off the pedal only to step on a banana skin.

I really hope we do not look at ourselves as sure progressors...and i have a really spooky feeling that a huge surprise might be in the waiting.

rafa wont underestimate anyone and im sure benfica will give a good fight.it interesting to to watch how koeman will prepare for the game. is he going to respect us and play counter attack game? or he think that we are just over hyped team..i think koeman will play an open game and attack from the start.Common Rafa....give him a lesson.

I've seen much optimism in english forums, and it's a fact that Liverpool is the natural favourite for the tie against Benfica. We have to accept that, but it 'hurts' a little bit...

PS - We don't "dream on beating" you. It's not that uthopic...

what gives you the optimism that you are better than us or that you can even hoped to beat us when you're currently lying 6th in a piss3d poor Portugese League? We're the defending European Champion and by tomorrow the World Champion and have the best recent league record in a strong English Premiership. BTW we are not over confident just over the moon that we got you and not having to beat some other big guns at this stage.

Which is not to say that we do not appreciate you beating the scum bags out of Europe...so a belated THANK YOU!!!

but we'll still kick the sh it out of you in Feb :eyebrow

Of course it hurts, but the same way I'm being pretty honest when I say Benfica has been one of the teams I heard as a legend when I was a child, and it's a respectable team, I must say, that right now those glory days are past.

If you want to read "I didn't want to face BEnfica under any circunstamces" go ahead, but you'd be deluding yourself, and I'd be a known liar.

Take good notice of Liverpool, a glorious team in Europe that in the nineties didn't do that well. They worked, they changed, they adapted, and right now they're on top of their glory again. Do the same

SIgh. and one of your mate just said you have been very respectful to us in the other thread. This is clearly a windup. and btw, keep the fuck out of our business, you're a Sao Paulo fan and you shouldn't be commenting in something you absolutely know nothing about.

It's easy to undertand why a Brazilian would support a Portuguese team, have a look in some history books and it's not that hard to understand.

Hate to break it to you Benfica fans, but Man Utd were shit in the champions league, don't get carried away with the victory. Benitez won't underestimate you, he hasn't underestimated anybody in Europe so he won't underestimate  you but you lot are deluding yourself with the win over the mancs.

And so is your manager btw:

That's the point - we are doing the same.In 1988 we lost the CL final against PSV in the pens, and in 1990 we went to the CL final and lost it 1-0 against AC Milan(as I've already said,we have a terrible tradition with them..).So,as you can see,we're not just the 60's glory team.
Going ahead, since 94 till 2005 we won no leagues and our club has been out of Europe 3 straight years.Benfica was in the deepest and darkest situation of its whole history:an extremely poor team, bad coaches and, most important, the worst president of ever which is now being judged for having robbed Benfica in a big amount of money!Adding to that, the FCPorto was growing and growing...
Since 2001,when Manuel Vilarinho reached the presidence(in 2003 Luis Filipe Vieira gave continuity to his work),Benfica is improving a lot.The construction of a new stadium and of a modern training center, the liquidation of old debts, the acquisition of good players(Simão,Tiago,Petit,Nuno Gomes,Nelson,Luisão,Anderson, etc, etc)and the return of Benfica's mysticism give us a great confidence in the future. As the UEFA site says about Benfica(nomineed the european team of the week),"the 'sleeping giant' that Benfica has long been said to be has truly awoken."
Else, two years ago we compared ourselves to Liverpool because you were also in crisis. We hope that both teams keep raising ;)

Where do I say we are better than Liverpool? That would be nearly insane. However,I believe there is no impossible in footbal and Benfica may achieve to win the tie against Liverpool.
I've already said that much things can happen in two months and the actual shape has not that importance you are giving to it(which is,though, understandable because you are in real good shape...).

You're still missing the point. We were in worse shape last season that we were now in the Premiership but we won the CL.  It really doesn't matter where we or you are on the table in the domestic league because CL is another story.

38 points behind Chelsea last season, we knocked them out and won the CL. Proves that domestic league form doesn't mean squat.

I agree with that.I never said or thought you were weaker for being 10 points behind Chelsea.I just said the english champion is probably found.

PS - What do the expressionos 'BTW' and 'IMO' mean? Thanks  :;):
