New center half? - Lets get an englishman

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I personally don't think Riggot is good enough to improve the team despite him playing well on Saturday morning. Gareth Southgate is a good and experienced defender along with being a good communicator and Riggot isn't the first central defender to look better than the sum of his parts playing alongside the ex-England man.
Clearly we need a central defender or two and they must fit into one of two categories. Either they must be young and inexperienced enough to accept being third choice, or they must be good enough to go into the team straight up. Riggot seems to me to be neither, while Anton Ferdinand probably wouldn't accept a place on the bench either given that he is playing regularly for West Ham.
My preferred choice would be Ledley King. Those that don't rate him or think he is worth the money (those posters are significantly diminishing from when I first mentioned him) are entitled to their view. I'm pleased to see Banana has stuck to his guns, I remember he found it absolutely unbelieveable and laughable last season when I said that IMHO King would cost more than Gallas. I still think he would. One reason is obviously because he is English, the other is that he is a better player.
If you are going to go for inexperienced cover, now that Dawson has gone then Hobbs along with an Agger or someone similar is the call.

Southgate is top class, should have had many more caps for England.

I've got my doubts about Anton Ferdinand.  His brother looks smoother than silky the silkworm's favourite silk pyjamas for 80 minutes, then BANG! he fluffs it and it's in the back of the net.  Anton was at fault for one of West Ham's recent goals because he made a really weak challenge in the box so I wonder whether that lack of concentration is in the cat and the kittens...

I think we should buy Anton to improve him and take him further as a player. No disrespect to Alan Pardrew but i think that Rafa Benitez can take him forward to the next level and really show his true talents.

I think that's just inexperience, and working with Hyypia & Carra he should gain maturity.

I do not think we will find any CB who is as dominant in the air as Sami. We are going to struggle to replace the big lad, especially as whoever comes in needs to be fast aswell.

Sami Hyypia - LFC's signing of the '90's? ???

best signings of the 90s?
1) Sami
2) henchoz
3) Hamann
4) Gary Mac
5) Jari - wasted though
---------------------------------
DISSAPOINMENS
1)Collymore - couldve won us the title if he had his head screwed on. Him and Fowler up top!!! theyd still be there now.
2) Diouf - how good was he v France??!! the boy has the skill and potential, if only, like Collymore, he wasnt such a problem, still love him though.
3)Cheyrou - Anyone at the Lazio friendly will remember. Like a french Rivaldo, then a new Zidane, now? at Bordeux :(  .........
4) Smicer - did us proud at the final, what a send off. Other than that he was not a Mcmanaman.......
5) Babbel - In here simply because it was such a dissapointment to lose the best right back the premiership has seen for years, full of energy, brilliant defender, what a waste. Gullie Bare syndrome I fcuking hate you for robbing this guy!!!!!

Didn't we sign Gary MacAllister and Jari Litmanen in 2000?
