Alonso out of ecl match - Cant break his leg if he aint playing

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Looks like Rafa is opting to field a side without Alonso. This time last year, the BS from London targetted our main man, and broke his ankle. What do you guys reckon, weak team fielded? Last time Rafa talked up our chances, it came to haunt us, looks like he is taking a different approach.

Him and Reina are on 2 yellows, and knowing them dirty b@stards they would probably make him get banned for the next round like they did last season.
Id settle for a draw we will still top the group.

Do the yellow cards total go back to zero for the second phase anyway?  I agree about not taking the risk by the way in this game.

Let's just go out and enjoy it and try to rock the boat a bit.  Chelsea are there for the taking in this game, I'm expecting a disciplined low scoring game, hopefully to our advantage.

no jonny. if you remember last season, gerrard got booked in the last group game against olympiakos and was suspended for the first leg of the last 16 tie against leverkusen. biscan replaced him and had a blinder. :D

Ah right, I see, then I agree with whatever gameplan it is that Benitez is using.  If he doesn't see the point in risking Alonso, so be it, the last 16 is going to be hard enough regardless of who finishes first or second in their groups.

And like he says, we have already qualified.

Once we enter the knockout stage do the bookings get taken away then though ?

Yeah,I think you are right St Mick, the yellows we have picked up count from the preliminary rounds as well.Doesnt seem fair to have these cards carried over.

I agree the decission, but not because of the cards. It's better if he got a card next match, than missing the second leg of the next K.O  round due to a card.

I think that Rafa knows that the EPL is also our bread and butter, that we are qualified, and knows perfectly that with Hamman, we might not have so much creative play or width, but we are gonna be a rock solid team as well.
