if this does happen, rafa must have a striker lined up, especially if he's planning on getting rid of cisse aswell during the transfer window.

p.s. andy g i forgive you :D

We can speculate as much as we want but Rafa knows what happened last season when we were short of players in certain positions and injury struck us. perhaps Rafa is making room for another striker, either way we can speculate as much as we want. But one thing is for sure, and that is we are going to see a few new faces in the next few weeks. Im very happy in the way the team is performing at the moment and if Rafa sees a way to further that improvment then i can only say "keep up thye good work Rafa". I just hope that we stay injury free and whoever comes in has a good attitude and blends right in.

Betis line up deals for Sinama-Pongolle and Postiga

MADRID, Dec 1 (Reuters) - Primera Liga side Real Betis say that they have agreed deals that would allow either Liverpool striker Florent Sinama-Pongolle or Porto forward Helder Postiga to join the club on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Betis have been on the look-out for a new striker to replace Brazilian international Ricardo Oliveira who suffered a serious knee injury last month.

'We've reached agreements with the clubs for both Postiga and Sinama-Pongolle,' Betis vice-president Angel Martin told Spanish news agency Europa Press.

'But the coach (Llorenc Serra Ferrer) will have the final word as to which one we sign and if he wants us to keep looking we will. We don't want to rush things.'

The 21-year-old Sinama-Pongolle scored one of the goals in Liverpool's 2-1 victory over Betis in their opening match in the Champions League group phase in September.

Portugal international Postiga, who began his career at Porto, moved back to the club in July 2004 after a season at Tottenham Hotspur. He wants regular first-team football before the World Cup.

Hrm...Betis, have you heard on the "choice" between the two? Or are they two seperate rumours? This article suggests that two deals have been lined up, and its up to the manager to choose. Hopefully flo po gets to go on loan, he might be able to polish up his already promising skills with more first team games. He'll come back a fantastic player if he goes for the second half of the year!

Yeah, like many people here - I'm not entirely too happy about this news. Pongolle didn't play that much, but I guess you can classify him as a fan-favorite of sorts. Mostly everyone can see he has potential. I hope that if he he does leave LFC permanently and not just on loan, it has something to do with a deal being made for Joaquin. I can see some sense in that, but otherwise he's a good player to have in the squad for his age and don't see much sense letting him get away. It's not like we would get silly money for him either. Analyzing the situation, one would obviously have to think this is only a loan deal. Perhaps with a purchase option attached, I would assume..

edit: I didn't see wee_boi's post when I was writing this. It seems it is only a loan deal. All good then..  :D

Pongo would be perfect in La Liga and if he goes I would be surprised if we got him back, he'd be enjoying himself too much !
Can't see us getting Joaquim EVER

With any luck, Pingo will go out on loan, which in itself would butter Betis up over Jaoquin (as we all know). So Cisse leaves permanently in Jan (he'll have a right strop if he stays 'cos Pingy is his best mate). Dudek joins Benfica as a sweetner to the Sabrosa move.

So:

Out: Cisse/Dudek/Pingu(loan). (2 strikers)

In: Joaquin/Kjuit/Sabrosa/some CB/possibly a new LB. (Sabrosa brought in as another striker).

Now they would make our team p*ss all over everyone. Let us contemplate:

                                                     Reina
Finnan                                JC                    ??                          Riise/new LB

                                                     Alonso

Joaquin                                                                                           Gonzalez/Sabrosa

                                                     Gerrard

                                        Kjuit
                                                                   Crouch.

Tissue anyone?            :p

To be honest, I don't see us needing a new LB lando because warnock is looking better and better every game he plays IMO. He has a bright future at anfield and we should hang onto him.

On pongolle, it would be a shame if he left and cisse stayed because cisse has bad attitude and pongolle has real ability (something which cisse doesn't seem to have). It depends on how rafa sees this, does he see this as an oppourtunity for pongo to get some good experience or does he see this as a way to get rid of him?

Does anyone know if this loan includes a view to a permanent deal? I really do hope it doesn't.

I'd be very disappointed if this was with a view to a permanent move.
And i am also disappointed that Pongolle hasnt had much of a look in this season...especially with the strikers misfiring.

I wouldnt imagine he would fetch that much of a fee to make it worthwhile selling him, so i really hope that Rafa has got some major reason for allowing him to go out on loan.

I'm dissapointed as well, after he got that goal against betis and playing well last year I thought he would be stepping up a level this year.

Maybe they are hoping that he is a hit in spain and gives us a lever for Joaquin.... Can't see it myself.

I also see difficult the Joaquin deal :( . But I agree those that say this loan is in order to bring another striker. I wish it was Nihat, as he has said this morning that every option is possible including that he may leave in winter so that at least we'd get some money for him. Some had pointed out that Bayern might pay 3M (Euro currency) (good deal, because yes he's in last year but this way you ensure a world class player)

So Betis1907- has this answered your questions? Pongo is definitely going to be a top player- let's just see who it'll be for!!

Rafa Benitez dismisses Pongolle rumours:

Rafael Benitez has dismissed speculation linking Florent Sinama-Pongolle with a move to Real Betis.
Recent reports in the Spanish press suggested Liverpool are about to loan their French striker to Betis in January but Benitez has moved to rubbish such talk.

"I read some news in the Spanish press but there is no news. It's not true," he said today at a Melwood press conference.
