Rafa eyes top four spot - Reuters news

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Reuters (pasted from aussie website)

Rafael Benitez has got his Liverpool side to be in a Champions League qualification place (knockout stages) before they travel to Japan for next month's Club World Championship.

Liverpool lie seventh, three points behind fourth-placed Wigan Athletic who they play on Saturday (Sunday morning AEDT), three days after facing bottom club Sunderland.

"We have three games in the Premier League before we go to Japan and we want to be in a strong position," Benitez told reporters on Tuesday.

"We play Sunderland and then Wigan on Saturday so maybe we can get into the top four. Sunderland is a really important game for us and we know what we have to do."

"It will be fantastic for us to go to Japan with three more league wins."

"That is my aim. Then we can then go to Japan thinking only of that trophy and not the league."

"Then the league will have a more realistic look about it because right from the start of the season we have played less games than our rivals."

Liverpool also face Chelsea in the Champions League and Middlesbrough in the Premier League before travelling to Japan.

Ah, 2 months ago not even the most faithful and optimistic fans thought that, and we have it achieved, almost.

The season is very long, getting Chel$ki might seem unlikely now, but at some point you reach as far as 6 points of them, they start feeling the pressure and... and then Fernando Morientes might be right, we are going to win the EPL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What amazes me is during one of are champions league games just a few weeks ago Alan Parry said "the champions league is probably liverpools best hope of a european place" yet a win tonight sees us in the top 4, and amazing even more, ive not heard 1 person outside the walls of liverpool, the littlest bit of credit, but after tonight and we are nicely tucked in 1 point behind the big 3, people will have to start giving credit where its due.

Rafa for Manager of the month anyone??

Without a doubt

Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.        BILL SHANKLY

As long as we pick up the 3 points tonight yes.

We cant afford to drop points in this game as we have done in the past.
